1:Arpeggiator = making your own arpeggios, and three different arpeggiators at once.

2:Better or more synth waveforms like hypersaw from JP8000 for Trance music.

3:More filters.

4:Make it better than anything else on the market and support it for a very long time.

yes .. but ... apparently, Yamaha owns a patent on multiple arps, from what I've heard and is the reason Fantoms only have one ... btw ... three?

Like traxio already said:

1. Arpeggiator: An improvement would be great!

2. The Fantom hasn't got many Euro Dance/Trance oriented waveformes. Maybe an ARX card will be produced?

I now we are not supposed to chat in this thread, but what is "Euro Dance/Trance oriented waveformes" in your opinion?

There's the 1071-1079 of supersaws and then there are the regular saws at 1258-1288 that you could stack and structure.

I'm interested in hearing what you are missing, **please** start another thread about this if you want to discuss it further. It will be interesting...

better sequencer editor. i like how the G can show the keys and durations on a bar like cubase, but you can't drag/drop, lengthen or shorten the note with the click of your mouse.

the event editor (microscope) is ok if we were back in the
MMT8 ages...

Post by Chuck SL »

Hi, Chuck here.

Im new to the forum. G owner.

Yes, I actually heard from Roland that Japan is working on an update for a new arpeggiator for the Fantom-G.

I hope it comes out soon!

Yes, improved arpeggiator is a must!

This is not the first time I hear it, but it's so confusing to me...how is that possible? I mean, how such 'normal' feature can be patented?

Korg's Karma has multiple arpeggiators but it's a much more advanced concept, does it mean that Korg pays to Yamaha for Karma??

Improved arpeggiator ...

Post by manishkurup »

+1 - I would like this too.

Korg probably gets away from this by claiming that KARMA is not really an arpeggiator - multiple arp engines would be encouraging for us, since now Roland will have to massively redesign their arpeggiator paradigm ;)!

But for all we know - it 'aint happening this NAMM, and this is just a rumour.

I would be happy with a revamped ROM soundset i.e. either newly designed sounds or best of SRX sounds in the G (I refuse to accept the current sound set as 'SRX best of' - sorry).

I just have to repeat myself one more time before Namm and agree with you on that one whole heartedly.

Oops. I broke my promise.

Oh well. Namm is very close. I hope it does not cost my entire tax refund, whatever it is.

Another solution for choosing a tone in the pro-edit menu, scrolling through thousands of waveforms isn't a very good solution?
At least the possibility to jump in categories (like it's with Korg Synths) would be nice!!!

At some points I have to agree with my previous speakers! I sometimes really can't believe that the sounds in the G are "best of SRX"...
I think I fancy myself that even the piano-sounds of my friends' RD700SX are bettersounding at some points....

But I have to underline that at most/other points the G is a monster machine and I love playin' it, as I mentionned several times!

Alesis' Synths also separate waveforms into categories.
It is surelly better than that LOOOONG list.

Also, we need to create phrases in different beats, not just 4/4.
Try to record a 3/4 song with 4/4 phrases. It gets really messy!

Yeah, that odd behaviour when working with time signatures other than 4/4 must be fixed on the next OS update, along with other issues concerning the Sequencer that we've pointed out so many times.

Now, something else: Does anybody believe that there could be a possibility to see nothing new about the Fantom-G in the upcoming NAMM show?

Stuff like that slips through all the time. I'm pretty sure Yamaha has a patent on traditional mod and pitch wheels too, but simply licenses that stuff out for cheap or free to companies it doesn't feel is a threat (unlike Roland—the two are considered fierce rivals in Japan).

Yamaha also patented elements of disk-streaming that preclude others from pulling out Gigastudio-type technology in a keyboard.
Korg's Karma has multiple arpeggiators but it's a much more advanced concept, does it mean that Korg pays to Yamaha for Karma??
A lot of time, it's not "multiple arpeggios" in a global sense that's patented—it's a specific implementation that may be limited to keyboard instruments. Korg's Karma may have tweaked the tech enough so there wasn't an infringement. I mean, Karma isn't multiple arpeggiators as much as it's a single arpeggiator controlling multiple parameters across multiple channels. It's all about how you massage the implementation.
