sharp protest gainst closing the update thread
sharp protest gainst closing the update thread
I sharply protest against the closing of the OS update thread.
It has not violated rules.
I regard it as a mere act of pure arbitrariness to close it down, and an obvious effort to guard Roland against uttering our legitimate user interests here. The very purpose of the thread was to keep reminding them of an urgent overdue update and of the high priority this has for many users, after letting us down for 5 months about something that essential.
So your action violates my understanding of free speech in open forums in a massive way, and I will never regard this forum as a neutral place of Roland user interchange and legitimate Roland customer interests again. To me it is nothing but a prolonged arm of Roland from now on!
I think you really should feel ashamed for what you did!

Re: sharp protest gainst closing the update thread
As far as I can see, the thread is locked and thereby always visible near the top of the page, still to be read by everyone. Calm down, Jim.
Saying things like "an obvious effort to guard Roland against uttering our legitimate user interests" and "a prolonged arm of Roland" only makes you sound paranoid. Roland knows by now, no doubt about that. Please leave it at that.

Re: sharp protest gainst closing the update thread
Huh? Forums are NOT a democracy. Artemiy can do whatever he pleases, as it's his site. If you don't like the forum guidelines, Jim, you shouldn't have agreed to them when first signing up.
Yes, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. At a certain point, it becomes utterly pointless, and begins to seriously detract from the community. We passed that point long ago.The very purpose of the thread was to keep reminding them...
Re: sharp protest gainst closing the update thread
The purpose of a reminder - guess what! - is to be kept in mind.
Quite simple, but it still has showed to be a big problem for some to get it

@Artemiy
Please don't lock the more critical threads.

As far as I can see, this counts only for stickies or locked threads treated like stickies. Hasn't the thread already begun wandering down the list? And isn't that the main purpose of locking it? Obviously nobody visiting this forum shall note that Roland still owes us a *basic*, orginal Fantom G function after 5 months!
Well, after all the discussions lately here I am not really suprised that some who introduced their character more closely at this occasion have no problems whatsoever with forms of censorship. Backbone and standing upright is not everybody's business.
So if others don't have problems with censorship, I certainly have. And this action will not really pay, I guess.
You can supress an unwelcome message in a forum like this.
But not anywhere...

Jimknopf:
Roland Engineer 1: Wait, did we release the Fantom-G update yet?
Roland Engineer 2: Crap, I can't remember. Let's check Fantomized. (a bit later...) Nope, not yet.
Roland Engineer 1: Are they still whining like little girls?
Roland Engineer 2: Not so much today. Artemiy closed one of the major whiny threads.
Roland Engineer 1: Oh, so that means we don't need to release the update at all, right?
Roland Engineer 2: What update? I forget.
Roland Engineer 1: What are you talking about? I never said anything about an upda... wha... What was I saying?
Roland Engineer 2: I dunno. You want to grab some lunch and talk about our new V-Kazoo?
Roland Engineer 1: What's lunch?
Roland Engineer 2: Uh... I forget.
Gee, yeah, because everyone's gonna forget:The purpose of a reminder - guess what! - is to be kept in mind.

Re: sharp protest gainst closing the update thread
Dear Artemiy,
I would very much like to come to your house and yell in your ear for months straight. I would like to babble the same crap over and over and over again. If you don't let me come into your house and babble the same crap over and over and over again, right in your ear, to the point where your other guests can't have a constructive conversation...
...it's obviously CENSORSHIP.

Re: sharp protest gainst closing the update thread
Yes, all is welcome here as long it is in polite form. But 5 people repeat one thing over and over again, which in result makes 500 people confused and less happy than they were... this kind of "free speech" makes no sense, wastes database space, readers' time and nerves. In fact, I am repeating this over and over again, too! Somebody close this thread!
To summarize:
1. I closed this thread because 100% of new posts made no sense. The beginning of the thread was fine, it's just how it got going finally... same stuff all over and over and over...
2. Free speech is a total utopia.
3. Democracy exists only in theory.
4. I am not prolonged arm of Roland. I am their prolonged dick.

Re: sharp protest gainst closing the update thread
P.S. I was serious... well, sort of...
BTW, unless you Jim and some others do not know:
Roland has nothing to do with this forum. This forum is an independent being, free from any influence from either of Roland's offices, employees or whosoever. This forum exists solely by my personal will, taking away my personal time and energy resources.

Re: sharp protest gainst closing the update thread
The Audacity Works, I would be totally fine listening to your yells!!! Please come. I have been listening for yells courtesy of my wife and two girls starting from year 2000, so I won't mind an additional voice generator in this polyphony.
Re: sharp protest gainst closing the update thread
"I would like to babble the same crap over and over and over again."
Nice and revealing as ever.
"same crap"?
Oh, our concern is "crap" to you?
Or, you can not resist clicking this thread you don't like and it becomes crap that way? Or it should better not be there at all?
))
It may be completely unknown to you, that companies have a lot of choices concerning bug fix policies, depending on how they rate priorities. They can wait to put together a big bundle. They can fix urgent things with high priority. And a lot in between. Seems this time it's time to exchange our usual roles. Do I really have to explain the world to you, facing such a blatant lack of understanding?
It is well known to most (not all) that the reaction of customers sometimes has a small but perceptible influence on how priorities are rated. So I invite you to the real world where all this has happens all the time and will happen again.
What is real crap is talking of "yelling" in this context.
There was nothing but a harmless, silent reminder of something which belongs to our genuine user interests. If this thread was "yelling" at you, without you even having the need to open it once, the fact that you can't bear one row of title letters among many(!) tells *much* more about you than about the thread.
How poor is that???

Re: sharp protest gainst closing the update thread
No, it is not... initially at least. And even objectively, it isn't. But after eating the same stuff 10 times a day for a few months, I have a stomach disease. So yes, it feels like crap now.Oh, our concern is "crap" to you?
That's the thing... the real world simply **does not exist**.I invite you to the real world

"5 people repeat one thing over and over again, which in result makes 500 people confused and less happy than they were..."
Art, sorry, but you put oil into the fire.
What you essentially say is that your forum has the purpose of keeping Roland customers happy, while the knowledge of bugs (which many of them would meet soon) could make them "confused" and "less happy"???
Are you serious???
The only thing making Roland customers confused are questions like:
- Why in the world can't my brand new Roland G export smf??? Even my stone age Korg 01/WFD could, if I remember right.
*That's* what confuses Roland custerms.
- Or if they ask, well, this is probably something overlooked, and fixed with high priority witrhin a few weeks? And they get the answer. No, It's been five months now. And not even a faint hint of any update time schedule.
*That* might be confusing to Roland customers.
Can singing smalltalk lullabies to them and avoid aksing something basic to keep them uninformed, but happy, be a real option for a forum like this???
P.S.
You should lock this thread as well.
It could be "yelling" in The Audacity Works ears and "confuse" customers or even "make them unhappy". Because: it's nasty and not as lovely as Winnieh Pooh
LOL
