***ROLAND FANTOM G OS UPDATE OVERDUE***
Re: ***ROLAND FANTOM G OS UPDATE OVERDUE***
Congrats, Jim!
You've really brought this forum to the next level by posting that! Unfortunately, it was the wrong direction... Not in my wildest dreams could I have imagined someone mentioning those guys (the dictators) in a forum for musical instruments. Well done. Well done, indeed.

secret
I guess you're right and so I apologise to our fellow Clan members.
So I went and took an OVERDUE shower with the help of our secret Agent Tatyana - you know how hard is to be without your hat on...

C-Sharp,
just skip the part of the discussion you were not involved in (but I certainly was without wishing so), and read the bottom line, and you are back on topic.
Any cute comment on that?

Best wihes to C.I.A.
I tell you a secret some Mr. Cocker was spreading:
"You can leave your hat on!" ...

It's hard to comment on something that has been said soooo many times SMF export? Sure, that would be nice, but I think it was mentioned months ago. Cute enough for you?
"just skip the part of the discussion you were not involved in"
What?! Not involved in? So this isn't for everyone anymore? What happened to your freedom of speech???

Don't misinterpret my words.
I didn't say you shouldn't comment.
I just said you weren't involved in this part of the discussion like I was, and *can* skip it, if you can't or don't want to deal with it.
Not too hard to understand, is it?

Re: ***ROLAND FANTOM G OS UPDATE OVERDUE***
Hi well it seems my Korg M3 (73) gets another update in the next week..... Korg does listen to his users, so Roland where the hell are you hidding ?
Re: ***ROLAND FANTOM G OS UPDATE OVERDUE***
m-lo, you have to understand that Korg is doing everything wrong and their users will no way appreciate these updates or being told that they are going to get one next week. It could undermine their position in the industry by letting the other companies know that one is coming (let me think what other excuses I've heard..hmm.. lol)
Roland is sort of turning into it's own religion, you just have to have faith and believe that at some point there will be light at the end of the tunnel and salvation.

Re: ***ROLAND FANTOM G OS UPDATE OVERDUE***
Another M3 update! I have not fully recovered from the last one. Will Korg ever get it right?
You people need to be careful with updates. After months of tell use users to not use the "Producer" arrangement of patch, out comes V2 that automatically arranged patches in the "producer" way, this screwed up 100's of user patches, they all had to be remapped. (Maybe this was the work in korg's M3 "work"station---turns out the work in the Fantom G is that you have to play the thing.)
disclaimer------I love my Korg M3, yet I only use the MIDI in port, and it's connect to the Fantom G MIDI out port. You tell me who the slave is.

Re: ***ROLAND FANTOM G OS UPDATE OVERDUE***
The G sequencer could really, really be something special if:
• We had SMF export (which is on the way)
• As an alternative to copying phrases as aliases, one could hold SHIFT and press F3, and a duplicate phrase would be inserted instead. This would make things much easier. Ideally, the duplicate phrases on a track could be colored a bit differently from the aliases
• Events could be dragged with the mouse in the microscope editor
• Auto Track Select were implemented again, making things way easier for new users who can't get their head around part-based sequencing
• There were macro arrangement functions (all track copy, delete, etc.) from the song screen
I suspect the last one's a bit tricky to implement. The MIDI data in a Fantom-G song file is really just an event list that tells certain phrases to play at certain times on certain tracks. To delete, say, measures 5-8 from a 12-measure song would require editing any phrases which span measures 5-8. This means the song file event list has to actually point to specific data within the phrase, which I suspect wasn't integrated into the engine. I'm really curious as to how Roland gets around this.
I still think the Fantom-G's sequencer is fantastic for hardware; it's just not an MV sequencer.

Roland G Update overdue
I am in agreement with you concerning the lack of an update to be able to save a smf. file. I purchased the Roland-G specifically to be able to write and save songs as an smf. file. I was told by the sales people where I purchased the Fantom-G that this capabality existed on the Fantom-G. Also in light of the fact that the manual says you can do this function and before I purchased the keyboard my research on the Roland sight also indicated this function was available on the Fantom-G. My frustration is with Roland Japan for taking so long for this update for something that was suppose to be available when they released this keyboard.
Keep up the pressure.

Re: ***ROLAND FANTOM G OS UPDATE OVERDUE***
Iin danger of getting repetative myself...where were the updates for the M3 the first year it was out? There were bug fixes, but hardly any features were added and the sequencer was a disaster with having a touchscreen but hardly a way to use it there. We asked for pianoroll, but that wouldn't work on a small touch screen mr kay said....
....and a year later, they do it (hurray) and they say they listen to their users. PARDON? Yes, they did listen, but they just said no.
I praise Korg for doing this mega update and Roland could do this too (bar adding a touchscreen piano roll editor for obvious reasons) but don't compare the M3 update with the Fantom G's coming update because the M3 is well over a year old now and the G just halve a year.
I get a bit tired of this hailing of Korg for the M3 update all the time, because there are more things common between Korg and Roland than you think. And the M3 just needed a boost. It wasn't the succes they and I hoped for. That's why I sold mine.

duplicate the sample
I wish a sample could be duplicated just as the phrases are.

NTulsa,
please put whishlist items like this one on the wishlist thread.
This thread is just about an important OS Update, fixing mainly smf export (and perhaps some basic sequencer problems) as soon as possible.
We try to keep a good overview and not get threads mixed up.
