Fantom G a Thorn in ones side.

Post by Quinnx. »

Its now apparent that the G has people completely dumb founded..
its like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.
From the very begining even before it was released people started to see that the G had too many compromises over the X and for all intense purposes was not a anvancement of the X but a completely different way of doing what you where use to on the X.
The G is now released and yet we still find ourselves trying to fit the Square in the round hole..
Untill we see the next update do some big change in the G some feel its going to be a never ending saga where we have a new workstation stagnated in the conceptual stage of development, with roland sitting back let us tell them how it should be done just so they can develope the next workstation with all our ideas and make us pay once again for next release.
Everyone can see the OS is not complete and was rushed to catch the market before its competitors.
Question now is...
How long will it take for the G to given the OS development it requires to be what we all expect it to be and allow it to give everyone the freedom to do all the things we expected from the very begining and how long should you wait.

Hey Quinnx,

it's just a keyboard, not a serious UNESCO case ;-)

We want it to become better than it already is - while it is pretty good and overall *much* better than the X! :-))

But I guess we are not in desperate searching struggle for squares fitting holes, world formulas or the Golden Can of never ending DOES BEER... So let's better become concrete and tell Roland where we want the OS and soundset to improve!

P.S.
The Fantom X is no standard: you just got used to it.
To me it's just history, and besides a few things working well there (remember: besides lots of limitations to quarrel with) I don't waste any second thoughts on it. The best therapy for phantom pain is making great music with all the nice gear you have in reach nowadays ...

Jimknopf:
Yes the G is capable, but at a cost..
things that should be done in 2 steps are done in 10..

another thing that can be anoying is the exclusiveness of the PADs..

example..
you set them to mode: RPS
you press a pad and your rps plays..
change mode to rythme and your rps stops???
Why?

you have triggered the pattern so it should continue to play..

soundset does not bother me
performance mode has major advantages,
the question of if the tempo should be stored in performances or not is still an open one and so on..

Yes, that's concrete things to discuss with Roland and put on the list!

Don't worry that they could "steal" these ideas for future devices and leave you alone with the G. They simply can't afford: Too many musicians I know bought the G as a *promising* device in the literal sense: if it's potential is regularly updated in a good manner, they will be satisfied custmers. If left alone only for more than enough months, not talking of years, they will leave Roland faster than expected by Roland.

"The G is now released and yet we still find ourselves trying to fit the Square in the round hole.."

Please, please, PLEASE stop putting your own words in everybody else's mouths. I'm happy with the G!

I also believe that this belongs to the COMPLAINTS AND WHINING thread...

Oh! Puleeze...
go away..
where trying to have a discssion here..

Jimknopf:
Problem with tempo in performances is your now stuck and can never use them for other performances of other tempos because it will change every time you select any other performance..
unless there is a tempo over ride switch to enable or disable its effect.

No need to be rude. I think I'm allowed in here just as much as you are. I'm just trying to keep all the whining in one place.

Come on guys, no need to struggle ;-)

JG, seriously, if I would feel a desire to protest, complain or demand, the very last place I would go to would be the whining thread :-)

So let's look at it straight:
- you can walk into any thread you want
- and all others can complain where and how they want.

The only thing we should avoid is offend each others...

"the hardest part is usualy convicing roland ;-)"

Sometimes I think it might have more trivial reasons than we normally imagine (bug and feature lists maintained in a bad way and out of user priority order etc.)

Perhaps we can reach most by being straight naming things in comprehensive lists which speak for themselves...

Grammar Wombat is on 'leave' right now, so this gives me an opportunity to wear my new 'T'! I wish my nose were alittle smaller! (You can hardly see my infectious smile!)

now come on and add the correct version instead of just wearing your new T ;-)

I had already feared I had offended you with my allusion to DOES BEERS in your cheeks :-) ...
