Time to load audio samples in Juno-G

Post by komplete »

Hi, I've recently bought a Juno-G and I have been experimenting with loading audio samples. In particular, I have been using the song recorder to play back a single, stereo audio sample containing the backing track for an entire song which I have created in my DAW. The issue that I am having with this is the amount of time it takes the Juno-G to load samples from the CompactFlash card.

Looking back through this forum, I see that a lot of people have commented on this, but I want to compare the load times that I am experiencing to determine whether there is a problem with my Juno-G or the memory cards that I am using.

At the moment, it takes 1 minute and 15 seconds to load a single stereo audio file that has a total playback time of three and a half minutes. The audio sample is held on a Kingston 2GB CompactFlash card which is fitted into a Sandisk CompactFlash PC adaptor.

I would appreciate it if other forum users could post the load times that they are experiencing, together with an indication of which CompactFlash cards they are using.

Many Thanks
Sean

How big is the file size of the audio sample?

hello komplete,

My Juno-g loads at 10MB/min!
Your file is probably a little bigger than 10MB.
Loading Audio samples in Juno-G is terrible!

Hi DOM! The file containing the audio sample is 35.05MB.

Since my Juno-G takes 1 minute 15 seconds to load the sample, this gives me a load rate of about 28.04MB/min.

Thierry25: My load rate is almost 3 times faster than the load rate that you are experiencing (though I am still pretty disappointed with my load rate). It seems strange that there should such a wide variation in speeds. Can I ask what CompactFlash card you are using?

It's a shame that the Juno-G's song recorder is not able to stream audio off of the CompactFlash card while the song is playing rather than insist that all the audio is loaded before the song starts. Unless, of course, there is an option for doing this which I have overlooked.

I would be interested to hear from other forum members about the load rates that they are achieving with their set-ups.

Thanks

Yeah that is a good chunk of file but I agree it should be faster.

I don't think the bus allows direct streaming due to the slow speed. I think that is why you are limited on how much you can record if you internal memory is too small as well. The manual doesn't care about how big of a card you have, it has to do with internal memory so therefore I don't think you can stream from the card. (I know you are doing something slightly different but I assume the process internally is the same.)

DOM! I know what you mean, but I was hoping that given the Juno can load my 35MB audio sample in about the third of the time it takes to play back that sample, that there would be scope to buffer sections of the sample into the internal memory on a "just-in-time" basis.

It occurs to me that upgrading the internal memory on my Juno-G to the maximum 512MB was probably a waste of money, since I estimate that it would take about 18 minutes and 15 seconds to fill it with samples loaded from the CompactFlash card. I don't know if my expectations are unrealistic, or whether I am just plain impatient, but this seems way too slow.

All is correct, for me it is around 27.5 MB per minute on Fantom-X.

Ok well that makes me feel better that the Fantom-X is equal in that respect. If you had said it loads them in a second then I would have fealt short changed!

Honestly I don't have any complaints so far with my G. I have used 1/8 of what it has to offer me..
