Rumor - Price Increase and Firmware Update

Post by derek_ »

Picked up my G6 last night! While talking to the sales guy, I picked up some 2nd-hand rumors which he claims came from the Roland Rep (US):

1) OS firmware updates are coming out in June
2) The G series is going to get a price increase sometime this summer (this was probably just a sales tactic but he brought this up after I had committed to buy)

He also said that the Roland rep used a Sony PSP as an external storage device for the G. I've never used a PSP, but it makes me wonder what other USB devices can be used as storage.

1. yes. some people have received an official roland pdf. it confirms, that multisampling will/should be available in the next update.

2. i don't know. but these things happen. the price for the m-audio project mix for example went up.

but if the price will increase then people will expect even more from the g. and so far i think roland has a problem to keep up with the expectations. for example the sequencer has to be MUCH better for a price like this. (i am sure that roland will work on it in the future.)

Well, I'm glad that I am just working up a perfomance set for the next month.

If I was trying to record, it would have to be on the X right now.

No Undo and no way to Global edit or even split a phrase.

I called the Roland Support number yesterday and asked them about the update. I was told that the update will be released next week and it will include multisampling.

Hm, I've also heard about this price increase from a few different sources.

Not good... it already costs a few hundred more than the competition. Unfortunately, this has effectively bumped the G off my list of prospects.

I think this is very strange. I've never heard of a workstation going UP in price. Is this a result of our fizzling economy or what? It must be. Otherwise, how do you explain something like this?

When I picked up my G7 at Guitar Center last week, the sales guy also said the price was going up in June. I took it as a sales tactic, but after reading these posts, maybe not.

Access Virus TI desktop module price went up from $1595 (at a particular store) to $1995 at the same store. Talk about ridiculous! All Access did was to add that stupid 'ATOMIZER' thing that slices audio and makes it sound mangled and disturbing. I can get much better audio slicing results on my Fantom-G.

Besides, I don't know why Access believes that a 'premium' synth like Virus should still use crappy walwart power supply its beyond me.

Ok, now I get what Art was referring to:
you seem jump on Access in any context or rather pretext.

Just an advice, not meant bad:
If you do it that way, nobody will take it serious.

Yes, it's just that. The dollar is not worth much nowadays.

8th Street Music and Sam Ash still have the May prices:
G8 $3,495
G7 $2,895
G6 $2,495

Musicians Friend/Sweetwater/MusiciansBuy have the June prices:
G8 $3,695
G7 $3,245
G6 $2,595

So the price increases are:
G8 $200
G7 $350
G6 $100

The G7 took the biggest hit - what's up with that?
