If not in the XV Collection, I doubt you'll find a piano that's any better than the factory patches.

Hi,

To be honoust with you, I don't know the juno G very well. I think this synth is made to produce "weird" analog noices and not producing Wave based sounds.

When the is an opportunity to put some expansionboard in it, I prefer to choose this option (you don't need any modules orso). SRX-11 is quit good I think (someone told me this is the same as the piano in the Fantom X).

Hope you can use this info.. when I'm wrong about the analog sounds..... pls forgive me...

well, it could use a little more meat, so maybe try to bump up the lower mids a bit, maybe around 600Hz (i'm completely guessing here). also, a little reverb does wonders at smearing the waveform just enough so it doesn't sound so ragged and synthy. I do like the pianos alright enough, but they can definitely get a little plastic in spots. Still, it beats my Juno 106 (brutally, with a lead pipe)!

Laclustre Pianos - Lock Active Expression On

Post by RobJuno »

I find the Pianos to be pretty muddy, not very bright and clear sounding... even the Bright Piano patch! Switching on Active Expression on the D-Beam and waving your hand down often results in brighter more reverberant sounds. Switching the Active Expression off whilst your hand is in the same place locks the patch at that setting... until the patch is changed. I'm not sure if you can then save the patch at this setting, though I am guessing perhaps not... because ... and this leads to a question from me...

Is there anyway of finding out what settings Active Expression is affecting? I'd sometimes love to use an expression pedal to do exactly what the active expression does... but i'm not aware that such can be found out.

there's a setting in there somewhere, under D-Beam. i forget where but it's probably under menu>system>d-beam - you can change what it is affecting, too. pretty cool.

Hmmmm

Thanks again for the replies. I agree with RobJuno that the preset pianos are muddy and theyr lack the brightness on the high octaves... Im having troubles witho soloing on those preset pianos. And IMHO the midtones are not so good and thats why the brightness is so... i dont know what word will i use,,,the brightness is so underneath. Still waiting for some suggestions or patches that i hope you wouldnt mind if i use. Thanks.

On a performance mode. EQ chained to Sympathetic Reso gives a good result too but still im quite confused with the Sympathetic Reso because i saw a lot of numbers hehehe... SO for juno g users maybe lets try to help each other. Thanks

those numbers are intimidating! personally, i would stick to what's already there, since they're presumably set by people with spectrometers who, i hope, already figured out what works best. i think they're also preset on all or most of the piano patches.

i'm curious about the mud... on my Juno, most of the pianos are too bright IMHO. maybe our monitors (or ears!) are that much different. you could try a little 3-4k on the EQ or higher (hard to tell what you're hearing). my reverb suggestion is moot, since you want to clean up the mud.

however, i think a different patch or the piano SRX may be in order. sorry i don't have a great piano to send ya :(

EDIT: now that i look at it, it looks like tweaking the Sympathetic Rez is probably a good choice. however, i am not qualified to make suggestions there (or apparently anywhere, come to think of it). very sorry!
