Hey everybody, I finally decided to join the clan. From reading over various topics on the forum I realized this is a definite place for me to be.
So for starters, I'm a serious musician and I've been one a while now. I'm a keyboardist, singer and I can play drums, bass and guitar. But keyboard and singing is really my passion. I sported a basic Casio keyboard for the longest time (which I can honestly say, they are worth their cheap price tag for someone who just can't afford serious gear).
Anyway, a while ago I picked up my Roland Fantom X7 off of Ebay, because between the three (Motif ES, Triton Extreme and Fantom) it seemed to be the one for me. Of course now I have many questions that I'm hoping to get some answers to...
1) My biggest question right now is how to mix multiple tracks recorded on the X down into one single wav file that can then be transferred to my laptop via usb. I'm aware that I need to re-sample my song in order for it to be actual stereo audio. What I'm wondering is can this all be done on my keyboard, or do I need to buy an external device to make this happen? Ultimately I want to mix down the files, so that they can be burned onto a cd. And I want to know if my Fantom X7 is enough by itself or if I need to break the wallet again. Oh, and I want to add vocals into the tracks.
2) I'm wondering about "extras" I can buy for my board. Things like pedals, more sounds, more space, etc. I definitely want atleast a pedal for sustain. Which pedal is guaranteed compatible with the Fantom X7 that I can use for sustain?
I'll leave it at that for now... thanks in advance for reading over my lengthy post.
Various X7 Questions
Re: Various X7 Questions
Rage08, welcome and congrats on your X7 purchase. The X is a powerfull unit with great features and mixing is one of them. I'm sure others dump their tracks into software programs and mix down that way but your X7 is more than able to handle this. Try for yourself.
I've connected an external controller to my X6 and use its slider and knobs for control within the mixer of the Fantom.
For adding vocal, use the audio tracks and you're set. For sound expansion, look into the SRX boards and the Planet Packs that are offered through this site.
I hope others can help you with your pedal questions.

Re: Various X7 Questions
Welcome to fantomized, regarding the resampling of the song/mix no you don't need external gear. You go to the Sampling section and go to Resampling mode press record and play your song and the fantom resamples the song youve recorded. This will leave you with the single wav file of your song which you can then transfer to your pc via usb or memory card.
I don't use pedals myself but regarding extra sounds there are the SRX boards of which there are many, each dealing with one particular type or range of sounds (ie Orchestral, Piano etc). Which, if any you get depends on what type of sounds you want/use the most and whether you feel the fantoms internal sounds are lacking in a particular area. The most highly reccomended is probably the Ultimate keys srx (lots of organs, synth, synth bass and other keyboard instruments).
check out some samples of the srx patches here (drag the individual srx into the fantom to hear samples)

Rage08,
To be more specific to what Hangman said, you may visit http://rolandclan.info/media/documents/ ... l#entry8.2 to know exactly what to do.
On extras, you may consider SRX boards for more sounds, Compact Flash card for more storage, upto 2GB RAM for more sample storage area and of course pedals for different purpose. You may use Roland's DP-8 (may be wrong in the model number) or something damping pedal.
