Van Halen jump patch??

Post by mdunne »

Hi, any of you guys know of a decent way to recreate the Van Halen jump synth on the Fantom X? I tried to do it but the vast amount of patches has me bewildered, any help would be great.

I used "PR-C: 035 Jump For KY" for a song at church the other day and some people asked me if I was going to play Van Halen. :)

That would have been hilarious if you could have snuck in just three chords from it ... da da! da ...

Although the Jump for KY patch is alright, I find it much more effective to tweak and combine the waveforms from that patch, and the "slowsupersaw" patch, cant remember the exact name.

I play that cover with my band, I always use "wide synth" (not very sure about the patch name), in the synth brass section. It sounds great.

And I just use my Access Virus to get it 1:1 and not just 83% of it ;-)))

Sorry, couldn't resist...

There's zillions of 83% Jump patches out there on all kinds of workstations and synthesizers.
And yes, Fantom X C31 "Wide Syn Brass" wave material is closer to the original Jump sound than the so called "Jump" waves are. Just tweak a blend of saws/supersaws coming close until you feel its ok.

I use a Roland JX 10 for that one.
If you have SRX 07 I think it has some Oberheim OB-Xa waveforms.

Wide SynBrs is the first in the synth brass category on the Juno G and it said JUMP to me straight away. Best on th G certainly.

No, you have 83% of it, since you are using VA =P
I use real analog keyboard Andromeda A6 to get to 99% =)

Seriously though, i tried to do good jump sound with Fantom-xr but hey there's not even nearly a good one in the presets so i choosed some from those and tried hard to make one, too bad it only came somewhat close so i made it to be patch for no more tears by ozzy.

On andro i again can't remember what i did but i detuned unison to make the real magic. Same sound little tweaked worked fine for Rush songs too, but really, it's not sounding exactly like Oberheim-Obxa ^_^ What did i expect? =) heh.

By the way, what the hell is wrong with XR Piano sounds? Shitties i've ever heard... i can't use them for records... i wonder if i have broken XR. It's just dull, un-inspiring blink sound with no trace of string resonance?

Is it possible to import Sounds from XV/JV to Fantom? Since last year I'm using an X6 but there are a plenty of XV-Sounds I really become fond of. Especially a Jump-Sound where I spent several hours in programming.

If it is possible I'd provide the Sound as SysEx File. Here a Demo:
