I guess my question is: How much improved is the ARX-02 Rhodes from the SRX-12 Rhodes, which we expect will be included as standard in the internal wave ROM of the G? Unless they intentionally left out the SRX-12 Rhodes' to force customers to upgrade to the ARX-02. If so, that would be a dealbreaker for me just on principal. At that point I'd probably pick up a couple of SRX boards for my XR, get Art's Planet soundsets, and look for a decent master keyboard to replace my aging D-70.
As far as present information goes, ARX is no improved version of SRX-12, but rather applying some kind of split samples morphing/modeling, interpolating between different time phases and velocities of the material.
The result seems to be nice seamless dynamic play and lots of teaking possibilities, probably at the cost of the authentical, natural sound of the original vintage gear.
Concerning SRX: It seems that some samples from SRX-12 made their way into the G. But first impression(!) is that, while keeping the 4 velocity layers, not as many single sampled keys as in SRX-12 may have been used in the G.
But the G in turn offers more variations of vintage EPs than SRX-12, and still at high quality, e.g. finally including some good dynoed EP material etc. So I think after all the G will offer the best EP all in all package so far, and despite the perhaps missing single sampled material still be the better offer even over SRX, providing first class EPs for any purpose.
So you *can* add ARX-02 if you are after its' nice dynamics and tweaking, but you probably *needn't*, if you are happy with a good variety of authentic EP sounds, which will be delivered with the G.
Hmm... I don't really like this Rhodes sample from Fantom G. To me it sounds more like FM E-Piano. Maybe it's possible to tweak a real Rhodes to sound like that, but it's definitely not the tone that I prefer.
