GT Save/Loading times ?
GT Save/Loading times ?
am i imagining things or is load and save duration a Real Draaggg
on the GT?
How long is it suppose to take to load and save?
on the GT?
How long is it suppose to take to load and save?
Re: GT Save/Loading times ?
Mine needs about three seconds to save a tone / patch, loading is quick. On startup, with all the presets and thirty user patches, it takes between two and three minutes for the GT to be ready to use.
Saving a project is (a bit) faster.

loading times
it takes 10+ minutes when you fully use 512 patches with about 6-7MB of wave data (as far as I remember).
Strange isn't it? Engineers certainly have a design mistake. I'd pay 100 more USD for an almost instant boot.

Re: GT Save/Loading times ?
You can *dramatically* improve saving-speed by using faster USB-sticks. I did some tests: I did a factory reset and wrote this project to a USB-stick. It took me 10 minutes (!!!) with a 2 years old 1-GByte-stick. I then bought a fast new 1-GByte-stick, and saving was done in about 3 minutes. Unfortunately, loading times were not better with the new stick.
It might also be a good idea to "defragment" the stick from time to time. To do this, copy all the content to your PC/Mac, delete the stick's content and copy everything back. This is way faster than using a defragmentation-software and does the same job.
Hope this helps a little ...

What!?
6-7MB in 10 mins??
What kind of processor is roland using? a .0000086?
Thats just ridiculous!?? in the 21st century to take more than .01 seconds to load that amount of data
im real starting to feel like i should drop this GT and forget roland altogether..
Im keeping my XT this GT sounds like its held together with string.

Re: GT Save/Loading times ?
Quinnx, I will be very glad if you drop all your Roland products and go over to the Korg or Yamaha forums

Re: GT Save/Loading times ?
Quinnx,
don't blame it on Roland - try to save a huge amount of small files to an older and/or cheap USB-stick at your computer, and you'll see that your PC/Mac turns into a snail. It takes me several minutes to write a "V-Synth GT factory preset"-project to the old USB-stick at my PC as well.
Roland is not always the enemy ...

Re: GT Save/Loading times ?
If you don't intend to continuously swap projects or turn off / on your V-Synth, five minutes of loading at the begining of a session is not a pain : that leaves you the time to switch your other devices and computer on, and to warm your fingers up. On stage, it can become an issue, but you have the right to use a battery backup system.
Re: GT Save/Loading times ?
I did some more quick checks ... loading a factory-preset-project from a new, fast USB-stick takes a little less than 2 minutes, not more. This project consists of about 1.029 files with only 2,44 MBytes of data, BUT most of the samples are just "pointers" to load sample-data from the GT's internal ROM.
My "own" main project however consists of 9,88 MBytes of data and 93 files, most of the samples are "real" WAVs - it only needs a little less than 15 seconds (!!!) to load. I admit that this project isn't huge, but I'm sure that I will never ever need a project that will need more than about 90 seconds to load.
While we're all used to the ultra-fast-loading times of computer-hardware, one should not forget that "dedicated"/specialized computer-devices like synths simply don't have internal hardware-structures like DMA to boost loading- and saving-performance. And don't forget that if you work with a computer (on stage), it will also take you a minute or two to have it booted and started up all necessary software as well (with the Mac-users being considerably faster at booting).
My suggestion: Throw away the factory-stuff, start building your own projects (with Roland's new VSynth-GT-librarian), and you'll find out very soon that loading times aren't a real issue.

And miss my success`s of forcing your sacastic responses every time..
How could I!?
I will do some more experimenting see what i can gain.
but why is it roland keep chopping bits off something thats supposed to be an evolution of its predesessor? but then does things like..
take away..
CLEAN PROJECT
IMPORT PATCH/SAMPLES
CF CARDS
and give you a slow file system in its place?
Another thing...
Why? has the Sample edit feature not change or been updated?
Why do we still have a 1 pixel cursor instead of a line in the sample edit(like the fantom) that follows the wave when you press preview?
~"Roland is not always the enemy"
Who else is making these cut backs in the current line as stated above?
I have noticed in the history of products i have experienced
roland programers seem to delight in Fking up new products in some way or another, i could list them all but it would be too long..
any way back to this GT and see what else i can do to workaround these deficiencies
Thanks for all your input..

Re: GT Save/Loading times ?
You're welcome ... ah, and Quinnx, don't forget to go and buy yourself a Virus TI ... if you think Roland is buggy, this little box will open a new dimension for you!
And I definitely second your opinion that "Clean Project" and all this nice stuff from the "old" VSynths should be implemented into the GT as well. I'm sure Roland will do this ... my bottle is half full, not half empty ...

Re: GT Save/Loading times ?
Your more optamistic that i am when it comes to roland.
but I suppose realy the file system is best approached with the following..
Rename the Internal.prj to V-GT.prj
and create and empty project and rename it Internal.prj
In that way your GT will always boot in seconds and if you want all the presets back just load V-GT.prj and go make a several cups of coffee ;#)

"Clean boot" in seconds
As discussed in a different thread already, you can always press and hold the Exit-button while powering up the GT to avoid any automatic loading. The GT will be ready within seconds, and you can load the desired project manually.

Re: GT Save/Loading times ?
cool, didn't know that. Are there a similar functionality for fantomX?
Re: GT Save/Loading times ?
The "Exit"-trick won't work on the Fantom X, sorry ... not that I would know ...
