SP 555: Does it chop?
SP 555: Does it chop?
I know that on the 606 it's possible to chop a sample into 16 slivers (or whatever). but at the store yesterday I couldn't figure out how to do this on the 555. anyone know if it's possible?
nice FX, at any rate.....

Re: SP 555: Does it chop?
According to the manual, no, it can't chop samples.
Re: SP 555: Does it chop?
Doesn't it have a mark button like the 404?
Re: SP 555: Does it chop?
The sp555 does not chop
Re: SP 555: Does it chop?
Chop manually!

Re: SP 555: Does it chop?
Does it have a mark button or not? The answer is of course YES, so therefore it chops the same way as the 404. 404 fans (and there's an ARMY of them!) swear by this chopping method. To say you can't chop on the machine is not only negative but quite misleading. And people say Roland tell lies..

vexa:
Could you please post the complete instructions? We'd put them in the SP-404 micro manual on the site. Thanks!

Re: SP 555: Does it chop?
DJ Frantic, or any of the 404-heads at SP-Forums could explain better than me - I actually use the 606!
I know that the 555 has the mark button though, so it must have the same capabilities as the 404 in this regard.
Basically, it means that you listen to the sample, use the mark button to select the bit you want to chop out, and save the new chop. But that's from talking to folk on the forum.
Can't find a thread explaining exactly how it works - which says to me it must be pretty easy!
Here's some discussion/comparison of the chopping methods of 404/606 here:

hope that helps a lil bit - Frantic? Where are you?

Re: SP 555: Does it chop?
The mark button does not allow you to chop it allows your to CROP!
I know they sound similar but theres a difference.
However, technicaly you can MANUALY chop with both the 404 and 555 using a cobination of MARK and resample.
If original sample is assigned to pad 1
1) Press pad 1 and MARK the begining of your 1st chop.
2) Resample to a new pad upto next chop point or more and stop resampling.
3)When finished resampling press pad1 again do not release, press mark (disables mark point)
4) While stil holding pad 1 press mark at next chop point (enable mark)
repeat steps 2 to 4 etc...

quinnx got it. I love chopping this way better than any autochop or wave editor. Its all by feel. lets you cut things up like you feel. And its real quick.
