Anyone with an MC-808 and a mac G4 please read

Post by Matthew DeMeritt »

Have you tried loading up the editor software for the MC-808 onto your G4? When I did so, I ran into a bug, probably in the driver software. I called Roland support and they tried duplicating my setup and got the same result. When I asked, I found out I was the only one who had reported this. I just find that hard to believe. The G4 isn't that much of a relic, is it? There have got to be more people with a G4 and 808. Perhaps someone got it to work, and myself and the Roland support team screwed something up...

Does your editing software work with your G4/808? If so, I wonder what you did to make it work, and if you ran into the same problem as me, then worked around it.

If, like me, you can't get it to work, then I encourage you to reply here and also to contact Roland support to report this bug. They already blew me off once by not calling me back, and being the only one with this issue - I think they think that they can just blow me off rather that rewrite the software.

Let me know, my effects editing potential is a mere fraction of what it can be until I get this resolved!

Thanks

Sincerely,

Hi Matt,

please tell us what problem this is. Maybe the problem can be reproduced on the editor for windows also. Many parts of the editor are the same for all platforms...

Ciao, Dirk.

I believe it has to do with the driver software, not the editor software. Loading the driver software causes the Audio Midi Setup utility, which is unique to the macintosh platform, to give a disclaimer saying that it was unable to launch. It further explains that "improperly written MIDI drivers" may be the cause.

I don't know about windows, but apparently this is not a problem with G5's and Intel based macs.

Arievilo,

Thanks for replying. Please, call Roland's support line and let them know you have a problem. They think I am the only one. We need new driver software, we need all around 808/G4 compatibility!
