Best of Both Worlds

Post by fjs714 »

Hi Guys,
Was just wondering. I've been offered a Motif Es rack really cheap. Can it be connected via midi to my Fantom x7 so that I get the Motif sounds?
Thanks Frank

It's actually the way which I'm using ESrack (besides not with X but Juno-G). With Fantom you will have an advantage of spdif connection so everything will stay in a digital domain. You will be able to record output of ESrack's arp to Fantom's sequencer too. Very handy. :)

I've actually seen this exact set up a few times this year. Once live and another time with a keyboardist whom I consulted for. I spoke wit both and they both had good things to say about the set up and its advantages. To be honest I considered the same set up at one point but I wanted the weighted action so I went with the Fantom X8 instead and then decided to go in a different direction. I think that set up makes alot of sense.

Thanks Fellas
Could you give me a general idea of the best way to connect to the Fantom and then to an amplifier?
Thanks Again Frank

i'm gonna pick up a ESrack for the studio...i think i may do that instead of getting the XR cause i do have the X6 already, but i just wanted the XR to stay in the studio so that i dont have to set up and break down the X6 every time i have a gig or practice...but, i think i would rather set up and break down every time and have all the motif sounds.

I'm planning to acquire a Motif Rack ES as well, as soon as I can find one cheap enough. I really do think that the combination of a Roland Fantom X 88-key workstation, and a Yamaha Motif Rack ES is a perfect one, and that it really is the "best of both worlds." I certainly wouldn't do it the other way around (Yamaha Motif ES/XS8 and a Roland XR).
