I’m looking for some software to manager sequences. The MC-808 is great for quick recording but I would like to have an overview and be able to quickly move notes around etc so I think I need a software sequencer. Is there something that will let me access my recordings directly on the unit or do I need software to manager the entire recording?
Any suggestions on software?
I was looking at Reason but I don’t think it will let me use an external synth other than for control.
I want the sounds of the MC808 but some sort of software sequencer. I also have an Alesis Micron I want to use.
Thanks in advance
MC-808, what software goes well with it?
Re: MC-808, what software goes well with it?
Hi sschueler,
the mc-808, when updated to the newest operating system version can export standard midi files. So you can record your ideas on the mc-808 itself, export the patterns as midi files, transfer them to your computer and import them in any software sequencer you like.
You can also use the mc-808 as a midi sound module without problems but you cannot change patterns as far as i know. Therefore you have to live with the same effect setting for the complete song as they are stored with a pattern.
Ciao, Dirk.

Save as SMF
Hi.
How does that Save as SMF actually work? Does it save the file in the SMF format instead of the MC808's own format, but in the same pattern location?
How do you then export it to another device?
I was very pleased to discover today that Live 6 communicates with the MC808 via the USB lead (Midi In and Out).
Great stuff

Hi,
have a look in the update infos. The smf files are written to the file system and can be copied to the computer after mounting the mc-808 over the usb cable.

No Documents available
Hi Dirk,
Thanks for the reply. There is no info in the support documents section of rolandus.com, nor in the knowledge base.
I suspect this Save AS SMF was part of update V1.02, which is no longer available on the site either.
Luckily I found the info on your comprehensive FAQ post on this forum.

Patter Exporting Help
I saw in this thread that you can export your patterns in midi file format with the newest software version on the 808.
I just purchased the 808 and would like to edit my patterns on my computer but am having difficulties. First, how do I check what version of software is running on my 808? Second, if I have the current software, how does the exporting process work? Third, If I don't have the current software, how/where can I get it to update my box?
Thanks in advanced. (I apologize for being a huge newbie)
