SRX expansion boards and juno g

Post by tolgay »

Is it possible to save the tones from the SRx cards to a cardflash memory. I think Juno g only supports one SRX card. I am hoping you could install each SRX card and transfer the sounds to the 1gb CF card
Is this possible? and if there is one SRX card you would buy which one would it be? (I am not a piano player)

thanks

Unfortunately you can't save the patches, waveforms to CF card and then put another board in and do the same. If this was possible roland wouldn't make any money on the SRX expansion boards. You can only use patches, waveforms if the SRX card is installed.
I only have the ultimate keysboard SRX07. This has a superb piano that come off the old SR-JV80-09 Session board which I used to have in my old XP-50. Also there are other piano patches and tons of organ patches on this board if they are useful to you. There are dedicated piano SRX boards out there but from what I have read on this forum most people think they are a waste of money. If you goto Roland U.S at www.rolandus.com there is a facility to demo each indivdual SRX board. You click on the board you want to try, drag to the Fantom and then it loads and you can hear some of the patches on each board.
hope this helps.......

Being you said you are not a piano player what styles tickle your fanbcy the most?

I have the Complete Orchestra, Symphonic Strings, and World collection. These three are very good.

If you are into dance or techno you should look into Supreme Dance.

Oh, and to answer your question: If I could only have one SRX card I would buy the Complete Orchestra just because of it's variety. My second choice would probably be World SRX.

Depends on your style really.

If you're into symphonic sounds ... the Complete Orchestra is a must have! It would be the one I'd install in a Juno-G.

sorry I mis read your initial post. I thought you were a piano player. In that case I would still get the SRX07 board just for it's anologe synth sounds plus if you ever do want to play your synth as a piano then you will have a great piano patch as well......

It's a pitty that Juno-G only accepts 1 SRX, I'd have 2-3 of them.

Tolgay;

Why don't you do this. Figure out what sounds your Juno G is lacking the most of what you need and then simply get the SRX that fills in that gap?

If you're hoping for more Dance/Techno/Chill sounds than the Juno G delivers then get the Supreme Dance. If the Juno doesn't give enough Orchestra for what you need then get Complete Orchestra. Etc.......

It would be a pity to have to buy another Roland Keyboard just to get more SRX cards.

I had an Xa originally ... besides not having the number of keys I really wanted ... having only the one SRX slot was the other big reason I rturned it ... for better or worse, most of the best Roland sounds will be found on SRX cards ... I only have two now, but def. plan on getting another ...

If you need to get more than one card I think the Juno might not be the best bargain anymore...

Think about it:

Juno-G: ~830 euros
2 srx cards: 270 euros x 2 = 540 euros
512 mb sample memory = ~70 euros (old SIMMs are pricey now)
Total: 1440 euros

Fantom-X6: 1500 euros

I'd rather get an X6 for 1500 euros than a Juno-G with two SRX cards for 1440 euros. That's probaby one of the reasons why the Juno has only one srx slot...

And this is even more true with the Xa!

Hum, I'd still have the Juno-G + 2 SRXs.

Have fun swapping them in and out and see how long until you damage something ... If you haven't seen one, they are very delicate and not like a videogame cartridge ...

Juno-G or Fantom Xa = 1 SRX board

DOES ANYONE, IN FACT, SWAP THEM IN AND OUT REGULARLY?

No Diametro, the hole thing is a "WHAT IF it had more slots".
No way I'd swap regularly, I totally agree they are fragile.

PS: mine is pictured in the SRX Expansion article in wikipedia :)
