lol

There's so much in this machine that Roland didn't advertise.

Anybody wondering should put aside all that Hip-Hop marketing.

:My god it's full of stars" Sounds like a quote from the movie 2001 : A Space Oddyssey. What that has to do with a sampling workstation, I don't know. And the title is a reference to Lord of the Rings. A mixed metaphore if I ever saw one.

My understanding is that the MV-8800 is a pretty good sampling workstation. It's synthesis features seem more limited, than say...the MC-808 (I make this comment from reading the MV-8800, not from owning one.)

I would not mind owning one, but they are a little pricey for me at the moment.

Wow! I see some real tight britches have joined up since last I've been here. Might I suggest drinks for you gents to loosen up.

The engines are just about the same, aside from the MV not having structures and you have to load your own samples.

It's a great piece. Well worth the money IMO and definitely not for the lazy. Although, like all things, there is room for some improvements. Still, an excellent total package and end-all flagship groovebox.

Nice one Roland.

When I looked at the patch params, it looked like some stuff was missing. For example, I did not see the equivalent of the TVF parameters the 808 has.

I could certainly be missing something.

A year ago I asked at MVnation forum if to MV from 909 was a good switch for a techno oriented musician.

They discouraged this.

The setup like the TVF is in the Partial Edit screen where you setup the synth parameters for a patch. Much like setting up each tone of a patch on the MC-808.

I don't understand why? Aside from structure setups, I can do everything the MC-909 can do and more. You just have to input all your own sample material.

Some people don't want to bother but the ability to put in your own material would keep the unit from becoming dated. Just switch or delete and install a new library and you have new material at you disposal.

More work has to be put in but I think it's worth it in the long run.

I've got some issues with the Sample Mix Table setup but I got an e-mail from a cat that said I should hook it up to my LCD television and use the mouse to set it all up. Haven't tried it yet but perhaps that would help.

I am certainly interested in the box, but I don't know of a store that carries it locally to get a demo.

Is there a list anywhere of it's preinstalled patches?

Not that I know of.

I only do faith purchases from Sweetwater. They have a good return policy.

I had no place to test it either but I'm glad I made this purchase and my Sweetwater Rep was nice enough to ask if I liked it.

Just got mine today. I just took it out the box now, but I was double checking all the on-line need-to-knows before I turn it on...But from what I saw at the store It looks killer...Probably will be up all night going through all the new parameters...Can't wait to see what I'm in for!

I recently got the latest Roland DVD and there is a function on the 8800 that I desperately wish the Fantom X had. The one where when looping samples, and you have that electronic glitch even thogh the timing is where you want it, you just hit a botton and it automatically sets up a crossfade for you. No more glitch. If I'm correct, you can't even do this manually on the FX. Does the 8800 have an alternating option when looping? Oh and congradulations to both of you on your new dream machines. ENJOY!
