using the editor (pc) and a sequencer (mpc) at the same time

i want to use my mpc as a sequencer but i also want to edit the fantom xr with the pc without loosing sync on bts patches. in usb mode this isnt possible. so i thought maybe you can put the fantom xr in midimode. then you control the fantom editor (pc) by midi. and also sync it to (mpc) by midi. only one problem. you only have one midi in. so i thought.... maybe you can merge the midi. (2 out 1 in). is this possible?

does anybody know this? maybe a moderator? otherwise ill have to try this myself... but im not happy when this doesnt work and somebody allready tried.

the only way I can think of to do this is to send the PC MIDI OUT into one of the MPC's MIDI INs, and send an MPC MIDI OUT into the XR's MIDI IN. Then do one of two things:

1) inside the MPC, route the MIDI IN from the pc directly to the MIDI out for the XR (going around the sequencer section of the MPC)

2) leave the MPC on a track whose output is going to the XR while you are editing on the pc, so that the communication from the PC goes through the MPC's sequencer section and to the XR

In either case, you are using the MPC to do a merge of its own sequencer output with the output of the pc.

nt do the option you suggested because i allready use the 2 midi out of the mpc. thats why i thought about merging two channels into one. but still thx

Hmm, I didn't think that what I suggested required any additional MIDI OUTs from the MPC. You were already connecting an MPC MIDI OUT to the XR MIDI IN, no?

sorry about the unclear msg. i couldnt edit it because i couldnt log in. i use both midis in and out on the mpc. so thats why i have to merge the signal. i tried to control the roland in midi mode with the editor and it seems to work. so i think im going to try if it works. ill let you know. thx again
