V- Synth XT

Post by mentalfunk »

Hey,
got the unit a month back and am getting frustrated with it.
It seems that every software I try ( be it cubase, fl5, sonar)
is limited to use only 128 patches and then I can choose them in banks....but roland decided to use like 512 in one ...er...bank?
So, if I sequence in fruity loops, I can't either find instrument definitions for the XT nor can I use any patch after 128...
Roland seems so complicated.

The other thing is this...
The drum kits blow ....for a synth with a price tag like the XT.

It is also not very user friendly because there are no instrument definitions available for sonar or FL.

So...wtf...roland

Don't blame Roland for yourself not reading the manual!
Ok ok I know, roland manuals have a bad reputation, BUT, the one I got for the V-synth IS clear enough.
I have Cubase SE and made a simple device map for the V, making all patches available for selection in cubase. Really easy!

Before you get too frustrated, go back to 1982 when MIDI was developed. You should know that each program change or control change message is limited to a 7 bit value, e.g. 0 to 127. Whenever a wider range is needed, the data is split into two bytes, MSB and LSB (most and less significant bytes). This is how all MIDI gear works, and in the V-Synth manual you can look up these values for all patches.

I just don't get why the manufacturer would not supply such file on a flippin disc with the synth.
So, now I need to be typing all that in my self?
...c'mon guys.

Well, that's mainly because they encourage you to use the XT to break some sound barriers with your own creations ;-)

Hi Metalfunk,

We do actually supply a patch script builder for the V-Synth XT.

Enjoy!

Hi Alistair,
seems impossible to register for that page. Gives a perpetual error saying "Verify Phone number".

Any ideas?

Cheers,
