King

Sorry mate but you are a few weeks late. The Oasys has allready been (and still is) long discussed. Just browse through previous threads.

It's too expensive ($8000) and it's not all that special if you ask me.

Frankly, I'd rather have a small collection of keyboards and/or softsynths. It cost less money, and is far more powerful, IMHO.

oasys is definitly cool looking, but for the price i wouldrather buy other stuff, like a v-synth and a fantom x with a motif ES rack on it.

about the korg oasys

Hi,
A very cool board if you are into the all in one deal. Lots of money though. The big touch screen is a great tool.
Why I would not buy one....
For that money you could get a great mic or two...a new or used Roland vs2480 (thus 24 instead of 16 tracks and 24bit/96) and monitors and a fantom x61. or a s88.
If you got all this stuff used you still have a better set up and can afford td8 drums or a good amp, or a great pre amp.
My two cents

Well, reading the specs and seeing the demos, no doubt the Oasys is the most awesome synth ever made. I would definately have an Oasys as opposed to many other synths. It would be a far better solution; everything in one 'box', neatly integrated, awesome power and mindblowing interface. Do not underestimate the Oasys - it beats everything else...

Most Awesome Only In Price...

I saw the Oasys demo at NAMM, I was not impressed. In my humble opinion Korg blew it on this one and without at least a 25% price reduction in the next 12 months, they will not see satisfactory sales of the Oasys. It is built on an unproven, non-field tested operating system -- time will tell if software/firmware/hardware upgrades will be needed by its small user base.

A much better alternative would be to purchase other items (Korg, Yamaha, Roland, Apple/Windows, etc.) that have been discussed in several other threads here and on other boards.

Bottom line: It sure doesn't beat everything else!!

Well I would sure love to have one. Its a Triton, a Karma, a Z1, and a Wavestation all in one with the various technologies all nicely integrated with each other. This synth has spent longer in development than probably any other synth in history. So, I'm not sure what constitutes "field testing" but I think the technologies are all well proven and I think the O.S. has Linux underpinnings (I read that somewhere), so it should be pretty stable. I think that the question for the OASYS is whether the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. I know I won't be able to afford one, so it will be up to others that have one to decide that question.
