I'm honest. How bad is it?
I've seen the MC 707 on Thomann, and on their product page there is an image of the MC and you can't read a single thing from the display.
Now with the right viewing angle it might be no problem. I own a JUNO DS and it has the same display. Actually I'm a bit disappointed. Or I'm really just too picky.

Re: Display quality
It's true, I was being frustrated from other reasons also. ;-)
Let me say I have a neutral opinion of the display that is like it is and I'll wait for new things to come anyways. There's no real necessity to reply here, the viewing angle makes it, and I'm only not in the mood to open packages and maybe return them for whatever reason, be it Christmas days or so. Though, I guess, yeah, you *can read the display. The MC wouldn't sell if you could not.

Re: Display quality
it's pretty crap tbh. viewing angle is not great (adjusting settings do help) and your hands on the C1-4 knobs tend to mean you need to crane over it to see it.
but honestly, if the screen is your biggest fret over this thing you are good to go. screen does the job. could be a lot better, but is far from catastrophic. this definitely falls down on the side of "being picky" though.
it's not perfect but the box is great fun, you can conjure excellent results very quickly and with relative ease. best groovebox out there at the moment imo.

Re: Display quality
The screen is fine but it's just a generic matrix LCD display with contrast adjust. So extreme angles will fade the view of the screen... it's not like that is anything new, LCDs have always been like that.
It's not really a problem if you angle the MC-707 so you look directly at it and not at an angle.
I personally have no issue with it. It does the job and it's clear enough to work with in my opinion.

Re: Display quality
I don't understand why they put in an LCD. Does it save battery and many musicians use the MC battery powered? Does it live 2x as long as Oled and I can use it in 2025 with no change at all compared to Oled or TFT?
While I absolutely don't want to criticize the MC I found it hard to see where this was a "had to be like this" decision and by that really get interested in the product. Just by seeing that it makes a lot of sense. Because I'm not sure I want to angle the MC. I tend to take things on my bed. Maybe I put a pillow under it, maybe not.
I just thought there must be some better explanation than it's cheap when the MC is 950 EUR or something and the screen isn't a color one and no touch and it's not big. I sometimes just wish I would understand it, and I fear people may see me as criticising it for no good reason. But I just wish there was a box that makes sound and I can believe it's fantastic.
I recently ordered a gameboy emulator (rg 300) with color IPS screen, the viewing angle is so good and it cost me under 70 EUR.
Anyways kind regards...happy music making..merry xmas...

You know I'm not buying into the MC-707 just yet. A lot of the features on it have me curious if this was even meant to be an Groove Box or a new TR8 model that they decided to just rename as a Groove Box.
So many of the decisions they chose makes more sense as a TR8S successor than as an actual Groove Box along side the other MC's. That screen is def one of those upgrades. The TR8S screen is more annoying than useful at times because it cuts off letters when reading files and it forces you to shorten names. The MC-707's screen would be heaven sent on a TR8S.
I just can't not look at the MC-707 and think "Hmmm?" is this a TR8? I total understand your concern about the screen OP. It was my main issue looking into the unit. All those features and a tiny screen for diving and editing with all the features they packed in it. I guess you could get used to it sound over function any day but I can only think if Roland had something like Akai's MPC 2.0 software that lets you integrate the machine with the computer and run it like DAW.

Re: Display quality
TR8S and TR8 are drum machines with sampling, and a sequencer optimized for drums... MC-707 is a GrooveBox because it can do melodies and drums and it's sequencer is more general purpose... They complement each other but one does not replace the other. I'm lucky to own both.
Both the MC-707 and TR8S are AIRA products and the whole concept of them is to go DAWless and free yourself from screens and complicated software and focus on music. I think they do it well too.

Re: Display quality
Hi,
OLED displays have bad burn-in issues for static content so it would take less then a year to see the screen burn-in for an always on screen full of static objects. Hi-Res IPS displays would require a dedicated graphics engine and memory plus it would take more CPU overhead. Where low res LCD are low memory and low CPU footprint usage gives more processor power to the main purpose of the GrooveBox it's sound, effects and polyphony. It's also old school looking... it really does the job and it's easy to understand.
