toggle parts with a pedal

Hi peeps, does anyone know a way to turn parts on and off using a pedal. at the moment I have some sounds programmed to accept expression messages from my pedal so I can bring a different sound in by turning the pedal up. What I would like to achieve is to program effectively 2 sets of splits/layers, then use the pedal to switch between them, preferably by turning some parts off and others on (toggling between the 2 states on each subsequent pedal press) I have either a controller pedal, or a momentary switch (sustain) pedal that I could assign to this behavior.
If anyone has any ideas regarding this, I would love to hear them!
