Audio files imported but memory full message!! Help
Audio files imported but memory full message!! Help
Hi Guys
I've been through the topics on 'Memory full and apologise if I couldn't find this in the library....
I've Imported around 22 files to the Fantom G6, I have an extended 512Mb DIMM card installed and seen by the Fantom. I have around 10Mb in these 22 audio.wav files. They are Famous film clips from the 40's through to the 90's.
However, I have imported these into the Import folder and I can see them on the sample list. I can import around 8 of them into user samples, through the F8 Import Audio function, but after that I get the MEMORY FULL box. When I check the System Info I have 511Mb (93.9%) Free....My User memory has 512kB free (1.0%).
I am only at User sample N0.85 and I have a zillion that are empty...
Am I really missing something???? I have loaded some more samples from the 'Import' folder and noticed that the Sample memory went down to 508Mb (93.3%).....I'm no guru, but that tells me the DIMM is being accessed!!!
I have just loaded a USB stick into the Fantom G and I can access all these sound clips through the USB, such that when I come to use 'Live play' all the samples are in the User menu to choose from...So I can use these from the USB, but this doesn't explain why I can't upload all of them into the Fantom System Menu, like it says in the Micro Manual!!...
Can someone simply explain if there is a limit on the User Memory stopping me from adding these!! and exactly what's going on?......
Many thanks

Answer about importing samples
Key-question: "Are you using the internal project or a project from the USB stick?"
You should save your Internal Project to the USB stick and then use (load) it from the USB stick.
If you use the Internal Project there will be a limitation on importing samples.
However, if you use a Project saved in the USB stick you'll be able to import and use as many samples you want.
I'm from Brazil and I've seen exactly this same doubt.
I think this is it.

Re: Audio files imported but memory full message!! Help
Hi
Yes I'm using the standard V1.50 project that comes with the Fantom G...It doesn't mention in the Manual about this restriction you talk about though. And there are a mega load of empty files that you can fill in on the standard V1.50 s/w. It's a shame I can't import more audio files into this ....
Thanks for the insight...

oh, it seems i raised a quite similar topic. pls have a look
Re: Audio files imported but memory full message!! Help
Another way round this is to delete all files in the internal import audio folder - after you've imported them into user memory of course.

i dont udnerstand this time what "free memory" is reflecting too? if internal memory is sample memory oder USER? i have much amount sample memory free but cannot save the wav file in the sample list.
Re: Audio files imported but memory full message!! Help
Hi guys
It seems Pedrokeysjunior may be right here....The V1.50 s/w looks like it only supports around 10Mb extra for wav files. No one seems to know why having an extra 500Mb of sample memory doesn't let you load a shed load of wav files, all I do know is, that once you power-cycle the Fantom the RAM (512Mb ) memory loses its cache (as it should as it is RANDOM ACCESS)... Maybe we can ask Artemiy of one of the dementors if they know how much the Fantom G can process on V 1.50...

Re: Audio files imported but memory full message!! Help
Hi!
Let me explain better.
You can import more samples into the V1.50 project. How?
When the V1.50 project is saved and loaded from the internal memory, the fantom-g can't import many samples. This limitation happens to any project that is saved and used from the internal memory.
However, if you save (backup) this same project into the USB stick and load it from there, you'll notice that you'll be able to import and save samples into the project as many as you want.
Project (Internal Memory): importing and saving samples are limited
Project (USB Memory): importing and saving samples are unlimited

Re: Audio files imported but memory full message!! Help
if this is right i´m really pissed off with R-FG!
Project (Internal Memory): importing and saving samples are limited
=> needs to be modified to unlimited / dependant from installed memory!
not 10MB or some shit like this

@VintageOrganPlayer
You don't need to be pissed off at all because the way how the FG functions in this regard is perfectly logical.
The internal flash memory on the FG is about 50 Mb. It is enough for small projects.
If you want more, you simply copy the project to usb memory (stick) and there you can load projects with up to 1 Gb of samples (if you have that much RAM installed).
If your usb stick is 16 Gb, you can have 16 projects where each project has up to 1 Gb samples which can be loaded into the FG.
That's the way how any other keyboard/workstation from the same generation functions. On a Motif/ES/XS you have to load your samples from usb. It's the same on the Triton or M3 or on a Kurzweil K series.
You have to load samples into RAM before you can use them. The fantom g gives you 50 Mb of internal flashram for storing samples and other project data. The vast majority of other workstations doesn't have any flashram for samples at all. Everything needs to be loaded from an usb disk.
It shouldn't be a problem having an usb stick, in the size of a house key and loading your data from it.

Re: Audio files imported but memory full message!! Help
i do not appreaciate this!
bloody usb sticks didnt work - maybe you forget one on tour - maybe you dont know which stick (if you have more) has actual data on it or not... I hate this mass! i would have payed 20bucks ore else more; but >2010/1 in time of huge data transmissons and sampling you have to have MORE than 50MB! memory flexibility! what the fuck is that for? if we would have 1997 i would say ok, but not TODAY! I´ll stay pissed of anyhow there´s no other solution than usb´ing... sorry. but thanks for explanation

The FG wasn't introduced in 2010 but 2 years earlier and designed probably some 5-6 years ago. It was common then to load samples/other data from an external media.
Yes, bloody sticks sometimes don't work. That's why you spend 10 dollars extra and buy another for backup. There are even some micro sized usb sticks which you can leave permanently attached to the keyboard.
Now, for the last time, keep in mind the direct competition to the Fantom G:
1. Yamaha Motif XS
2. Korg M3
3. Kurzweil PC3(X)
Both, the Motif XS and the M3 don't have any kind of internal flash memory for samples, only for patches. So, in any case, you need usb memory to load samples on them. The PC3 is actually a workstation without a sampler and you can't load any samples at all. The Fantom G comes with internal memory which holds 50 Mb of your data including samples. Once again, the direct competitors don't hold even 1kb of user sample data anywhere internally.
You don't have to be so dramatic. We carried zip drivers 10 years ago, external scsi disks and cd rom, even floppies, and now it's a problem for you to take care about taking an usb stick with you? It's your job to take everything with you what you need on tour. What if the drummer forget his sticks, or the guitar player his reserve strings? Just keep your stuff (cables, sheets, power chord, pedals, usb sticks ...) in a single case and everything will be ok.
