I need help please......

Post by Squints2See »

Hello all,

I am trying to record a song on my X8 and here is my problem.

One of the patches I want to use (Lunar something....) has a pulsating sound to it. I can tweak the speed of the pulse using the real time TEMPO knob on the ARP/RHY setting and get the pulse to the speed I like.

Now, I want to record that tweaked sound onto a track on a song. However, I want the tempo of the song to be different than the tempo that I have that patched tweaked to. So when I set the song tempo to what I want, it changes the tempo of the pulsating action on my patch. I tried saving the edited patch as a new patch, but when I use the new patch it still loses the pulsating tempo when I change the song tempo....

How can I achieve this? Any help would be appreciated.

P.S ...For anyone who cares I am trying to basically recreate the backing synth/whirling sound from the song "Elevator Beat" from the Vanilla Sky soundtrack for use in a wedding ceremony.

Hi Squints,

After a quick look I didn't find the specific patch you are using, but in general this might help. The rate of these pulsating patches is set by the LFO, for a few of the patches that I examined, it was LO1. You can tell by looking to see if it is turned on or not. If you already are used to editing patches, some of this may already be obvious. Anyway, if not do the following:

Load the patch and choose Patch Edit. Then
F6-->Pro Edit
F2-->LFO1
Now look at the "Rate" row. This is where the rate of the pulsing is set. If it shows a note symbol, the rate is going to vary with the tempo you set for your song. If the rate you want is not equal to but at least related to the song's tempo, you can adjust the rate you want by changing to the appropriate note symbol. If on the other hand, you are looking for a rate that is independent of the tempo, then keep changing the knob until you see numbers in the rate box. Now the pulsing will be at some "pulses/sec" independent of the song tempo. Just hold a key down as you make these changes and you will here the results.

Now Write this edited patch to a new User Patch and it is ready to add to a track in your song.
