Announcement: FG Connects Project

Post by Dan Krisher »

Hi all.

I'm pleased to announce a new Fantom-G project download, called "FG Connects". This project is a free download from RolandUS.com. The project provides the following new content:

Over 600 rhythm patterns (ranging in styles from Rock, R&B, Urban, Latin, C&W and more.)
Over 100 new chord memories that reproduce the voicings of different instrument styles
128 edited arpeggio phrases for guitar, bass, keyboards, and more
96 RPS phrases (comprised of drum and bass grooves)
32 Rhythm Pattern Sets
8 Chord Memory Sets
10 Arpeggio Sets
32 Studio Sets (that correspond to each new Rhythm Pattern Set)
14 New Drumkits

Plus, there's a new demo song and new song templates in both the song list and Favorites mode.

Go here to download the new project:

I recognise some of the content from the DR-880 drum machine's presets.

I think it would be useful to add to the accompanying documentation a few notes, or at least references to the main manual, about the nature of projects in the Fantom-G context and the effects of installing a new one.

I have to admit that I got a bit of a fright when I installed this new material and suddenly found that all the content I'd programmed into the G myself had disappeared.

Yes, that stuff was still accessible in a project of its own but it had me rummaging through the manual in a panic for a short time at least.

You can't rely on everyone who installs this being an expert user and I'm sure the technical support team won't need the extra calls such mishaps might generate.

Really nice job! Thanks!

Could this be a preview or part of the next OS default project? If yes I think Roland its making really smart moves, taking the feel of the users...

I'd like to report some kind of odd bug. I tried opening the file using the default zip program that Apple uses and it created. After that, I copied the .prj folder to the root directory of my flash drive. When dropping it into my Fantom G, it saw two folders:

._fgconnects.prj
fgconnects.prj

Thinking that it was kind of odd, I tried loading the fgconnects.prj and it was frozen at 4%

Just for fun I tried another USB stick and in doing the above steps the same thing happened. My last try was to unzip the file on a windows vista box and then transfer it to the USB stick from there.

Bingo! Worked like a champ. The odd ._fgconnects.prj folder wasn't there. Just the normal fgconnects.prj. Not sure if it was the zip software that Apple uses or simply transferring the files on my Mac, but somehow I was unable to get it working only using a Mac to unzip/transfer.

@Igglethorpe:

I also used a Mac to unzip the project. When I tried loading the project in my G7, at first it seemed to be frozen at 5%. I simply waited about a minute and everything was perfectly loaded.

How do I import this to an existing project? I tried the editor but it did not work.
