Can you duplicate a sample?

I know an audio sample can be recorded and copied. Is it possible to duplicate a sample? I would like to perform edits with out affecting the original sample.

Just do the following.

Open the SAMPLE EDITOR with the sample you want to duplicate and press the following...
F-3 F-8 F-8 OK

Your sample is now duplicated

I believe you are thinking of the phrase list, which is MIDI data and not the audio sample.

In Sample Editor F3 is Modify
you are given 6 optoins (Trunicate, Normalize, Amp, Chop etc..)
F8 is to select one of the options
Then F8 is to execute.

Now if it had "Duplicate" as on of the options then that would be good.

Go to WRITE and save that sample into an empty location. The one you save will be a duplicate.

I followed these steps and the original track is renamed. Not able to create two seperate tracks.

1)recorded and saved sample
2)Hit [WRITE] saved sample with a different name.
No Luck

1)loaded sample
2) copied into different track and selected copy
3)[WRITE] and renamed
No luck

the only thing that allowed me to rename the file was after I used auto chop but that not what I want.

I must be misunderstanding the instructions?

You did`nt follow the instructions

Close your eyes and do as was suggested.
You will be a little wiser when its over.

2. Save it
3. Save it again to another location

That's it, you will have two copies of one recording.

Hindsight: I didn't understand how to save a sample to an empty slot. After reviewing the manual I was able to follow your steps. I can now duplicate a sample.

Quinnx, I appreciate your help and it bothers me that I can not follow simple instructions and achieve the same outcome.

So for my sanity I would like to figure out what I am not doing right.

I open Sample Editor while in Studio Mode by pressing [SAMPLE] located left of the display.
The sample that I want duplicated is listed in the current sample field.
I press F3 (Modify)
This is where I am given a list [1 Truncate, Emphasis, Normalize, Amp, Time Stretch, Chop]

Am I right so far?

After pressing F3 I am having to select one the six options provided. What do I do if I don't want to perform that modification?

When you press F8 [Truncate] and you **don't change any value** there and then press F8 [Execute] the G just creates a duplicate of the original sample. If you **do** change any of the values you obviously will get a diferent sample.
