What was ment to be the easiest synth to use is driving me mad, 2 days later i feel like smashing my sh-201 up. I fired up the editor on a new channel like any vst, but can not get no audio out??? I have routed the channel to varios places but still not a peep. I can use it to control other vst's which seem to work? I also keep getting a user error 7 message which asks me to consult the manual but doesnt tell me what to do. The message come up when i load patches or press the read write button?
Please help, am i missing something on the routing? I can see the midi coming in on all channel even the channel with the editor but nothing no audio out???
I have the midi in my live prefferances set to:
In, sync & remote
What is going?
Have I not set something up? I have googled but can not find any useful info.
Thanks

Re: Roland SH-201 & Live 7.01
I now have sound coming down audio channel 2, playing the sound & midi from channel 1, but then when i select another midi channel with a vst paying say strings the synth plays on top the the sound in the channel i am trying to audition?
So my question is, if im using the synth on channel 1 midi, audio for sh201 coming in on 2 then i have vst etc on 3, 4 , 5.... can i use the sh201 to control these other insteraments like a convenitonal controler & use it as a synth in the same project?
How do i stop the sound from playing on top of the other sound?
Arghhhh Frustraited!

Re: Roland SH-201 & Live 7.01
Th SH-201 is NOT multi-timbral so you can not play more than ONE patch (sound) at the same time.
Re: Roland SH-201 & Live 7.01
yes i have learnt that now but this is what is happening & i want to do:
When i have it on midi channel 1 for the sh201 editor & audio coming back in of the patch selected from the sh201 on channel 2, I can still hear the sh-201 playing over the top of the new midi channel/vst that is selected on what ever channel, so basically the sound from the sh201 plays over the top of all my other channels when their selected. IE the massive i have running on midi 3 when i touch the keyboard i can also hear the auido from channel 2 playing the editor on midi 1 playing over the top of the vst instrament i have selected???
I have switched local off.
I do ot need to use any audio cables out of the outs puts if i am using usb midi/audio? I should be able to select the routing? Which is another thing that is doing my head in.
I want to be able to use the sh201 on one channel for midi with the vst editor, channel 2 for the sudio in from the sh201 & then use the 201 as a midi controller for the rest of my song with without the sound i am using out on the synth on ch1/2 plaing over the top of the new selected vst instrament???
Also if i am using the sh201 as a controller & a synth do i turn the local off on all channels im using it as a midi controller & local on on the channel i am using it as a synth?
Also on Ableton you have midi receive all, do i need to individually assign midi channels to vst's & the synth or does this happen automatically???
Sorry to be so long winded but i have spent a whole weekend trying to solve this problem, i have spoken to roland tech in uk & ableton but i am still baffled???
Thanks

Sorry but i don't know Live so can't help you there but from here it looks like you're having trouble with MIDI routing. Hope someone else jumps in to help.

rhubarb, please do not post the same question in several topics - better start a new topic on yourself.
Re: Roland SH-201 & Live 7.01
Tony,
First thing I would do is check to see if you can turn off the MIDI soft thru in your software as it appears to be re-transmitting your MIDI messages. I say this because the SH-201 would not be playing any sound with the local switch turned off otherwise.
If you can’t stop the MIDI re-transmitting, is it possible to de-select the audio input to channel 2 any time you do not want record or play sounds from the SH-201 (ie when you want to trigger your VST’s via MIDI on other channels). The SH-201 will be streaming it’s audio over USB regardless of it's MIDI channel selection, so I would assume that if your software has any active channel set to receive audio from the SH-201 you are going to hear it.
You do not need to connect the audio outs to get sound into a DAW via USB, and I do not believe that routing is selectable. As far as I can tell sound will always be present on both USB and the audio outs.
For your MIDI channel assignments I would think you need to work out whether it is easier to turn your channels on or off as required in Live 7.01 (in which case leave on receive all), or if you want to manually change the Tx channel on the SH-201 (in which case do individual assignments).
