XT Clock source MIDI

Post by Shambler »

Hi,
when you set clock source on the XT to 'MIDI' you start to hear sweeping frequency artifacts in the sound ala Jarre's Magnetic fields album...which is fine if thats what you want ^^

Any idea how to stop this happening, using Cubase SL2.

Example sound file here... http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/sha ... disync.wav

Voice is 212 Alias pad, first note with midi clock second note with internal clock.

Also have this problem. very annoying.
It is the delay that make this if it is set to sync to the clock.

I have the same problem - usually if you use stereo delay.

Second thing what is annoying me - you could not write an arrpegiator midi notes from XT.

Hi, Artemio, why do you keep silence about it?

Tell us something, please.

I have my XT clocked externally via midi and have no such problems - Is this over USB or a midi cable?

My studio is down at the moment so I can't try it out, but I'm going to check Shambler's intial suggestions when I'm up and running again. (in about a week). I've never noticed a problem before and always have my XT externally clocked - I may have spoken too soon though!

just dug this thread up again - hear no difference no matter how I clock my XT.

Sounds like you've got some kind of MIDI loop going so each note is getting double triggered.

I don't have this problem, but I don't have a computer in the mix. Just a Fantom X8 and V-Synth XT.

I've noticed this too (I thought I was hearing things at first). I also do not have a computer in the mix and am synching to my external clock using MIDI cables (MIDI-in is all that's connected to the GT). Is the master clock from the external source somehow retiming an arpeggiated component of the patch?

Hmm . . . I just realized, every time I hit "RECORD" on my Fantom (the master clock source), the V-Synth GT automatically turns on its "ARPEGGIATOR." At least that's part of the problem solved. Have to troubleshoot more to determine if that solves it totally.

Maybe it's the Step Modulator getting kick started as well? I dunno, I'm grasping at straws here. Once again, I don't have these issues.

Ok still got the problem but this time with the GT ( had an upgrade ;) ).

Dimitry is right, it is when using the stereo delay and I have tracked it down further.

The pitch changing is mainly heard when using the long delay times (crotchet, minim, quaver etc).

If you use the 'ms' delay values the effect disappears.

If you change the value of delay when playing the effect is heard again then when you stop changing the value it goes away again ( unless you have moved it to a long delay time > 650ms).

I have tried all the different midi clock options in cubase and on the gt, even tried a different midi interface.

That's all I have found out for now, still no solution but by using shorter delay values the effect is avoidable.

Are you sure your clock output is stable? When you say you've tried all the options, could you expand on this? I don't use a computer and my hardware sequencer delivers rock solid clock output. No problems here.

Good luck,

Paul
