@AK-Jake

I don't have the manual right now, but i remember that you can get all of the G's vocals back doing a factory reset.

Volume Level Bug

Post by AK-Jake »

That's what I figured, thanks.

Now here's a new bug that I've discovered. It's happened to me several times since I first got my G8, and yesterday, it happened to me 5 times.

Out of the blue, there are times when I strike the keys hard that the volume-level of the output will drop by 50%. Literally, if I've got the volume level set at half, the volume level will drop to as though I had the volume knob at 25%. Cranking it up all the way will only yield a 75% volume output. The only way to remedy this anomaly is to turn the board off and back on.

There is no rhyme or reason to this...I have been unable to reproduce it intentionally. And when I say I strike the keys hard, I'm not talking about abusing the board, but am merely playing with gusto (often times with classical pieces or rock songs where I'd have to really play hard to cut through the band).

Anyone else having this problem? Or has it already been documented? :)

Yes...I accidently trigger the aftertouch while playing sometimes. The aftertouch sometimes trigures a filter that decreases the volume. I have to be careful with this.
The aftertouch on the X was harder to trigger, which I prefer.

It's the AFTERTOUCH that's doing this? Wow, I've never experienced that phenonmenon in a synth before...usually triggering aftertouch requires direct extra-forceful pressure and is not based on velocity. Interesting. Since it's a dual-patch piano (Live Set) that I built, I'll have to go dig around through the parameters again and see if I've got a setting wrong.

Makes sense, though. Thanks.

It sounds to me like you were playing Piano patches when this occured i.e. (playing Classical pieces or Rock songs to cut through the band)?? If that is true then I have a tendency to doubt whether it is the Aftertouch feature that is affecting the volume levels. Piano samples should NOT have Aftertouch assigned to them so if this volume thing is happening when you are using strictly Piano patches the problem most likely lies elsewhere; because I can't fathom why Roland would be assigning aftertouch to the pianos.

OTOH, if this is happening when using other voices besides strictly the pianos then what MadaHorn said makes perfect sense. ;)

See, that's exactly what I thought: piano's don't usually have aftertouch assigned to them, so why would I be triggering aftertouch? That's why I thought it was a bug.

The Live Set ("patch" if you will) that I'm experiencing this on mostly is a 2-layer piano that I built, made of the Bright NY Grand and Bright HM Grand (if I remember correctly), with the volume levels set at 100 (out of 127) on each, reverb turned off, and chorus on. Still not 100% sure what's causing the volume drops, but it's beginning to happen fairly regularly. I'm going to start playing with other patches and see if I can get it to occur that way.

Channel 1 reset to 0001 :G-Grand every time you switch scree

Post by Quinnx. »

Any one notice that regardless of what patch you have selected in
single mode
or
Studio mode on Channel 1

Every time you change from one mode to the other, both Single mode and Studio mode on Channel 1 revert to 0001 :G-Grand

Sorry Quinnx, at the moment I can't support this thread because I'm using 95% of my 'music time' for programming patches, writing arrangements, composing new stuff and playing with my instruments, with the G at the core of my rig. And 90% of what I want to do work with the 80% OS, so you won't get me away from real music making at the moment... ;-)

I will return on topic after the first OS update...

I am still using the Fantom XR, Fantom X7, and Fantom G7.

I like the G7 enough to keep it, but I cannot yet sell the other 2 without losing things I need right now...

Come on updates!

PAN switch bug

Post by aobeezy415 »

Heres a bug I discovered when I was editing a patch. when I attempt to pan a tone within the patch it only allows "63R" or "02L" The degrees of pan don't show up...You can pan from the mixer and for the entire patch but not for each tone....anybody else get this...Im currently running 1.10....

Quinxx,

Just installed 1.10 on the G8 here in AZ. It appears that only Single mode is not remembered. Selected Studio Sets and Live Sets are now remembered when switching modes.

So Roland fixed this issue 2/3rds of the way, it appears.

Never mind. Found the problem. I had a foot controller that did not go to "0".

Sustain Pedal - Recording trouble

Post by appmus_ »

Sustain Pedal - Recording trouble
When I record a track and press down the sustain pedal it captures the 64(hold) 127 ON state for the correct channel.
When I release the sustain pedal it captures the 64(hold) 0
for ALL 16 channels. see the editor microscope.

That does not seem like a normal function.

As tracks are added that use the sustain pedal it effects previously recorded tracks.

Even after a system reload and OS upgrade to 1.10.
