GREAT NEWS: fresh new Roland Clan site design!

Post by Artemiy »

Dear everybody,

I am happy to announce the new Roland Clan site design.

- Completely new graphics design, more sleek and attractive

- More stylish elements like icons, arrows, etc.

- Search, language switching and menu bar are now on top leaving more space for page content

- Polished Samples and Materials sections

- Optimized XHTML code, much more CSS-based design for even smaller page size (the actual user interface code is only 2 KB (!), the rest is page content; total page size is usually about 10 KB*)

Have a look now!

http://rolandclan.info/

* Why is this needed? Mobile device CSS profile is on the way ;-)

There is also a lot more coming in August.

Enjoy!

Looks great! This might be a good time to bring up something that's been on my mind for a while. The site name. I'm sure it was not the intention to sound anything like that group from american 1800's which started with a k. This is just a humble suggestion, but does anyone think, out of respect for any roland synth owners who may cringe at the name similarity, this would be a good time to consider other possibilities?

Glad you like it! Sorry but I have no clue about what group you are talking about. Roland Clan is exactly what the name suggests, I see no reason and I am really tired of changing names and moving the stuff around ;-)

Art,

Looks real good! I'll reply via the teammail, also. . . . . .

slargthorb,
Yes, here in the USA one could make a correlation between the word 'clan' and 'klan'. But my personal thought is that this may be a bit of over sensitivity. Internationally, the word 'clan' denotes a common group.

From the Dictionary.com site clan is defined as:

1.) A traditional social unit in the Scottish Highlands, consisting of a number of families claiming a common ancestor and following the same hereditary chieftain.
2.) A division of a tribe tracing descent from a common ancestor.
3.) A large group of relatives, friends, or associates.

Number three describes the folks here, don't you think?

I guess what I'm saying is that as a person of African-American descent, using the word straight up without the adverse influence of unfortunate past events is a positive way of moving forward and signifies a 'victory' over any mental shackles that came about because of those events.

Anyway, enough social commentary. Art and us Moderators discussed the name prior to the change and thought it was alright. Just a bunch of guys brainstorming. . . please understand that I sincerely appreciate your thoughtfulness about the matter.

Thanks a lot!

I am now working under more fundamental changes in the XHTML code, I want it to work on mobile phones too.

BTW, don't you think all MODE buttons on every device out there should be renamed? Reminds me of Depeche Mode all the time.

I think I missed this one Art. Great work ... and "The Clan Keeps Growing!" :-)

Just one silly question : Are you planning to have links to the Fantomized sections or will we still have to go there to go to the "Documents", "Samples", "Patches", etc sections?

The thing is, trix, depending on who you ask any given thread could have been informative to them. So I guess we'll just leave them all grouped together as is.

Fix:

Silly question indeed ;-) *Everything* will move to Roland Clan. Patches are already there if you haven't noticed. Soon samples and documents will join them.

trix:

No, the forum will not yet be mobile-optimized, only the main Clan site will. But eventually the forum interface will be rewritten this way too.

trix, do you ever look at the browser's address bar? Or look at the top left corner of the forum page? ;-) We moved to Roland Clan 4 months ago, my friend.
