HELPPPPP Problem with Fantom x7

Post by chucopr »

My friend and I have the Fantom X7 and both pianos have the same problem. The piano goes away of refining without touching anything, or is heard as if it had effect of flanger. The sound distortion and I sound as if it had an effect. Is it known anybody about this? has anybody, in addition to Jonh, had the same problem? thanks for his help

Hi Chucopr.

Have you got the X7 plugged in to any MIDI sequencer's or the computer via MIDI?
I had something similar happen to me. The Fantom is receiving MIDI data, even if you haven't opened your MIDI sequencer.

Also try a Factory Reset if that is not the case.

What mode is this happening in? (Piano, patch, performance or ALL?)

Can you give any other information?

If you have your fantom (or any other synth with local on) connected to a computer or any other midi device running a sequencer with echo on, it will send back the notes you are playing on your fantom with a small delay and cause them to be played again by your fantom hence causing a flanger-like effect.

Quick fix: Turn local off on the fantom. Turni it back on when you play solo.

Good fix: Learn how midi works (there are excellent guides available these days by only writing midi in google), and read the manual which came with your synthesizer. No offence.

Well, you didn't supply much info -- so my advice might be completely off the mark -- but if you're in performance mode and have a piano patch activated on part 1 and have the identical patch loaded in part two, it can produce a flangery effect ... just make sure you're only in part one ...

but I can't see how you couldn't figure that out for yourself ...

Not in front of my fantom now, so I'll try it myself later ...

For your sake, though, I hope that's not your problem ...

I played in Live( the place were you can select all the setting and play just press a botton.) I was played a acoustic guitar and them change to a performance and the problem started. It sound like a flanger effect and I pressed the mixer botton and when I sow the botton of the virtual console, they was moven alone, they went crazy. I tried to use the knob to avoid this and I move to the correct place and fast the changed alone again. I reset my fantom and the problem still. Please let me know if you know. I live in Puerto Rico and is very expensive the repair. If i can do in my home Aleluya, but if not, I have to pay a lot. Let me knoe if i can repair without the bad way. Thanks Regards

Hi chucopr, Loosing it during a live performance on stage is always a total bummer, sorry to hear about that.

From what you wrote, I'm thinking this might be a midi-related problem (assuming you have midi or USB connections to your Fantom). My suggestion is to attack this problem one variable at a time.

STEP#1: Turn off your Fantom, remove all SRX cards, expansion memory, and your storage flash card (if any of these 3 items are installed). Disconnect all cables (even your audio outputs and pedals) except the AC power input.

Step#2: Turn on your Fantom, perform a Factory Reset, plug in a pair of working headphones and play the Fantom as you normally do. Try your best to make the problem show up.

If the problem does show up, let us know and we'll all try to help you at that time.

Step #3: If you are convinced that the problem has gone away, then start adding your SRX cards, memory, storage cards, and cable connections (midi, audio ins/outs, pedals,) back into your setup ONE AT A TIME After you have added only one item, repeat Step #2 above. It is very important to add only one item at a time, otherwise you have introduced two variables and if the problem returns, you will not know exactly what caused it.

This type of trouble-shooting does take a few hours but is usually the best way to isolate and identify a problem.

Good luck

Sometimes broken cords cause really weird "sound effects" with the stereo sound. Does your Fantom sound the same even if you use headphones (eventually SPDIF)?

You said it sounded like flanger or something. What if... just go to the EFFECTS section and try to disable all effects. Sometimes things that SOUND like flanger ARE flanger :)

So, this seems to be an issue for the Roland service...

Hi chucopr

I am most sure you have to take your Fantom to repair.
This happened with a X7 I received last month. The board under the Real Time Control knobs was broken due to excessive pressure over them in transportation. The X7 had to go do Roland Service and received a new board and knobs.

Sorry for the bad knews :-(
