Post by emranrao »

Hi Bappi/Shakil,

Although I'm not from India but I'm also into Eastern fusion music. Click here to here a peice of my music that I did using Reaktor and a guitar sampled in EXS24 sampler in Logic Pro.
Hope you like it and looking forward to some feedback.

Thanks,

Exactly right Sambasevam,

I found this odd looking drum machine uploaded by one of the users on NI website and it turned out to be a lot of fun. Needed quite a bit tweaking but came up with some sick grooves and that was the inspiration for this tune.

Thanks for your feedback!

Hey Emran

Amazing tune! Relaxing, yet it has that 'tension' or restlessness.

You can easily put NFA Khan's raags on top of this...

Where are you from BTW? Iran?

Remember that there are only 3 MFX + 1 Reverb + 1 Chorus in Fantom-S/X and you have to share them across 16 parts (patches) in a song.

shakil vai
you told me to record harmonium's every note and then you create a patch for me.
At first to do that I need a good microphone, sound card, sound proof room etc. which I have not.
plz give me the patch which I asked if you have.

Hi Shakil,

Thanks for the kind and observant feedback. I am from Pakistan as well, been settled in States for the past 20 years. Yeah, I am a big fan of NFA Khan's music. The man was a genius but left too soon.

I have uploaded few more tunes of various genres, including ethnic. (couple of them using my new V-Synth)

Please let me know what you think and also, post a link to your music as well.

Thanks,

Bappi,

Check it out too!!

Specially listen to Taal (very traditional), Migrane Bhangra (Punjabi Beat with electronica fusion), Zindagi, Decaying Soul (done with V-Synth but listen to the Ethnic Alaap Patch half way into the song).

Hope you like them !!

emranrao,
I have a very slow internet conection
i.e. I have needed 45 minutes to download "Taal".
"Koshish" was excelent. I am dreaming now when I shall create this kind of creation.
If I had those patch which you use in "Koshish"!!

NO ONE WANT TO GIVE OR SHARE THEIR PATCH.

Bappi,

Thanks for your patients, as far as downloading and listening to the tunes. It seems to me that you are encountering many logistical issues due to your location and lack of available resources.

The best advice that I can give you is start working with whatever resources (synths/recording gear etc) that you have available and start making music. If you are not satisfied with a patch/overall sound, tweak it until you feel it's working for you. Once you're done, give us the link to listen to it and I'm sure that you'll get enough feedback over here. I can gurantee you this, you can create the same experience for your audience which you feel when you listen to other people's work, with the patches that you already have. It's a matter of constant trial and error.

For "Koshish", I searched and downloaded a free drum machine for Reaktor from online and I used a free sampled guitar, which I also searched and downloaded from web as well.

Now, I gather that you have slow internet connection but in the end my friend, we all have to work with whatever resources which are available to us. There are many free patches that are shared by Artemio and others in this forum. Most importantly, have fun making your music!

Bappi,

Emran's right, it's best to check the web for free stuff - I don't think there are many people on this forum that have created patches on the Fantom S for the instruments you're looking for so you'll have to get creative. We can probably help with the technical stuff. I have very little knowledge of indian music, but it's amazing what you can find on Google.

Here are some sites with sound samples:
http://web.mit.edu/cjoye/www/music/
http://www.swarsystems.com/TaalTrax/
http://www.karnatik.com/shrutibox.shtml

From what I read, although the tanpura is like a sitar without frets, it is considered a drone instrument, so it would be difficult to created the sound from a plucked sitar, but here are a couple of samples:
http://www.sitarsetc.com/instruments/ta ... 0wound.mp3
http://www.sitarsetc.com/instruments/ta ... trings.mp3
http://www.silverbushmusic.com/Tamb%20m ... bridge.mp3
http://www.tcs.tifr.res.in/~pandya/musi ... npura2.wav

Here are some parampara samples:
http://www.sitarsetc.com/parampara2.mp3
http://www.sitarsetc.com/parampara3.mp3

Here's some pretty cool software and electronic instruments:
http://www.cyndustries.com/modules_tabla.cfm
http://www.sudeepaudio.com/swarshala/index.htm

I found this stuff in about 20 minutes, so I'm sure you can find all sorts of stuff if you take the time.
