i've never had a firm grasp on how to manage samples and what not.
i sample songs and things for every beat i make, and during the process, save it all by going to Save/Load, then Save Song and Samples. i always save to Card.
i have never used the "Write" function in the year and a half i have owned my Fantom-S.
im scared that ive been going about this all wrong.
any help?
am i being REALLY stupid?
Re: am i being REALLY stupid?
Hey Loop,
nope, in my opinion you havent made any mistake. Write function is primarily for patch/rhythm/performance. Save/Load is rightly used for Samples.
By the way, i have not figured out how to create an entire rhythm pattern using imported drum loops. you seem experienced in this....can u offer some help?

Re: am i being REALLY stupid?
thanks for the response.
but within the 'write' function, there is an option for 'samples'.
so thats why i'm confused.
as for your question,
i never import drum loops. what i do is take a loop (usually something i find within a song i like, not some loops i find on the internet) and cut the individual hits i want in Logic, then sample those into the Fantom.
inside the fantom, i get the hits exactly as i want them.
then from the sample list, i do load utility' and assign to pad, with all the hits i want. then ive got a nice drumset to work with.
hope this answered your question...

Re: am i being REALLY stupid?
Loop...Ofcourse using "write" function you can save your samples much faster...Just set mark to them all and hit write...execute and they'll be saved...Or if you save one sample, also hit Write, input name of the sample choose were you want to save it and execute...

Re: am i being REALLY stupid?
what do you mean by 'mark set' the samples?
i'd like a nice, clear, detailed description of what to do....if possible.....thanks...

Re: am i being REALLY stupid?

If you want to save more than one sample, for example you have to save 5 samples, then you can simply put a marks before samples wich you want to save...atleast on FantomS this option is provided....I can't believe you never had a deal with putting marks before samples, to create multisample or load some particular sample group from all list of samples you have....Did you loaded all the samples in card memory all the time, if you needed only two or three samples? If so, then you loose more RAM space...

Re: am i being REALLY stupid?
yeah i always just load all the samples.....see i told you im being stupid....
i have my board set to load all of them on startup.

Re: am i being REALLY stupid?
yeahh...if you have enough memory RAM, then you can load all the samples and keep them loaded, but for me,it's better to keep samples unloaded as much as possible, so I load only samples wich I use in a particular song...You can set off this option in system settings, if you don't want all samples to be loaded on startup...also preset samples keep unloaded...just load samples wich you need...it will save RAM
