naw fellas...you are not alone. Hip-hop forever...but I wish it was 83-87' again..when just about every hip-hop album that dropped was nice.

The 1st and/or 2nd albums from: LL, EPMD, Kane, BDP....and the numerous 12" records put out by artist that never got album deals......TLa Rock's It's Yours.....Dj Cheese's King Kut...who remember's the Skinny Boyz, 3X Dope, Dana Dane, Sparky D, UTFO, MC Shan...not all were commercially sucessful but these artist were part of the better days of hip-hop..IMHO

3X Dope was tight back then and so was Dana Dane. Thats when you didn't have to worry about a rapper talking about how much drugs he sold and then became a rapper. Dont forget The D.O.C., no one can do it better.... That when you could buy an album and there was more than three or four songs that were tight. Not anymore, its rare... Artist are more worried about how many producers they have on an album instead of worrying about having consistency and tight lyrics. I missed those days 91-97 were also some good years.

I'm in a zone now...remembering the good ol days. The Fresh Fest Tours......also the Raising Hell and Nitro Tours...there use to be magic all on one stage..Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane, Houdini, Run-DMC, Dela Soul, EPMD, Chuck D...I saw all these acts on one stage between 2 nights...

Back to the Fresh Fest Tour..I remember seeing LL before his album dropped...Remember the Rapping Duke...Da Ha da Ha...I am not just talking about what Biggie said in Juicy...I catually saw him in concert with the rapping Mae West..it was cking of corny when you think back..but I love them days....I take it back to the 100+ Roxanne answers...Kurtis Blows AJ Scratch, and 8 Million Stories 12" with Run-DMC...I remember the words...A youg girl seems to be gaining weight.her parents felt funny 'bout the food she ate.....then there's a little girl her name is Vickie..the girls is fine but sho nuff tricky..Vicky is fine but she's not very kind cuz she'll lay you down, and then rob you blind...

$20 to you if you can guess the person who spit these lyrics: Let me tell you a story yes..how I got to be so fresh..it happened one day you know when I was sittin up stairs listening to the radio..they said that's its a contest..to give the most money to the......whose the best...

Simple lyrics but that was a classic in my hood. Name that artist...damn I am showing my age :)

I am 39 years old and hip hop is so deeply engrained into my blood its crazy, Its what I grew up with. I remember seeing Run-Dmc, LL, Whodini & The Beastie Boyz at Joe Louis areana in Detroit, I believe the year was 1986. I will always remember that concert, it was totally off the hook!!! I am into gospel/jazz music now but I want to incorporate the hip hop drum flavor that I am so fond of into my music. If you fellas come up with a drum solution please post your findings. It cracks me up every time my sons and I are in the ride and I have my Grand Puba, Epmd, Craig Mack or Soul Sonic Force bumpin' we all have our head nod thing goin' on!!! Btw, "Looking for the perfect beat" is my all time favorite get hype song. Sorry if I got off topic fellas ;) !!!

Hey jahrome, I think thats Fresh Prince but im most likely wrong on it. I know it but I cant think of it right now.

Im 30 years old and my all time favorite artist is Rakim and my most favorite group is Gangstarr. Primo is who I idolize for his creativity and great music that he has brought through the years.

I think it was Afrika Bambata and the soul sonic force that did "looking for the perfect beat".

That's the one where they're saying " I must get mine....I'm out to get it", right?

"Looking, searching, seeking, finding, looking, searching, seeking, finding".

or how about, be a real producer, go dig for drum breaks from vinyl an take them to the computer, filter them, then send them thru usb to the fantom

HIPHOP

Post by ROOKIE »

I haven't heard hiphop on the mainstream stations in yrs! guys like krs or rakim may not be appreciated for their skillz nowadays...the dirty south rappers sound like the early '80s when the flow was'nt that complicated...do they know about diggin' crates? cause they make me never want to use the 808 kit again!
