Analog Filter

Is there a way to decrease the noise (fuzz) on the Analog filter. I dont see an option in the system.

My question is how could I make it sound.
Neither noise nor any change in the music !!!
Selecting the analog filter and moving the knobs have no influence on the sound.

Zone output changed from MAIN to AFX. Then I see input lines changing in intensity on the ANALOG FILTER window as I go playing , but while moving the controls does trigger a little window where values are clearly shown as being changed, I cannot hear those changes on the sound being played, that remains clearly as before.

Any help, please...?

Thanks for that noise supressor input, will try that out.

To hear the analog filter go to Menu - Effect Edit: on the right side where the analog filter is, there is a red switch wich needs to be closed (connencted). So now the sound will run trough the analog filter to the main output and you will 1. hear it and 2. see the levels in the analog filter screen. Had the same problem.. :) This is where the noise comes in. Im recording trough two 1176 compressors and if I release a tone the noise kicking in very loud because the whole signal is compressed.

I think that step of the little red switch was included in the kit of everything I tried. Yes, I remember I got the sound back after initially being lost...🎹🎹🎹🎹
And after that I saw that nothing happened as I went changing parameters...🥱🥱🥱🥱

You will hear that thing when you move your filter knob when its red. Compare it to the normal (blue) filter. Huge difference.

Thanks again, but they are already red out of blue, I move the knobs, a window appears showing the curves moving as I go and no changes are heard. Volume of the analog filter at 127. Tone playing exactly the same, as if no filter was being applied.

You did not close the analog filter circuit in the effects screen.. I dont see an other reason for this. You got to tap on the little red line till its connected to the main red line so the sound can go trough in the to the main out.

Just went through it to see if I could help with that noise...

Zone output changed from MAIN to AFX.

Please try this:

Effects edit, internal:
- I set all zone outputs to MAIN, not AFX
- Make sure the signal passes through the red box below the Analog filter-box. Click on the red box to toggle between connection and no connection.
Effects edit, output:
- Make sure there is a connection between Analog filter out and Main out. Press the red switch to toggle between no connection and connection
- Make sure that main is routed to main out and that you actually listen to the main output from the synth
Front panel:
- Press the analog filter button so that the cutoff, resonance and amp level knobs turn to red and the analog filter page is shown on the screen
- Tweak the filter cutoff anticlockwise and see if the highest frequencies are filtered out

I know you are an experienced user, but I try to explain as thoroughly as possible just to be sure there are no misunderstandings.

BTW: I use firmware 3.0.1

Version 3.01 here.
Using one zone to make things clear.
Zone 2 output to MAIN.
0274: AX Trombone
Full keyboard range.
It sounds very well.

Now...
Effects edit...Square next to ANALOG FILTER and EDIT showing a little red switch placed diagonally and OPEN.
I close it and from the ANALOG FILTER & EDIT square the grey arrow going towards the right turns solid red and the yellow/green arrow that goes down towards CHORUS/REVERB Send turns grey.
Zone 2 does not sound anymore.

I press ANALOG FILTER button.
Level 127. OD active. VCF/VCA active. Return To Main active (so there should be no need to close any switch, don't you think so ?). Filter CUTOFF and RESONANCE went red from blue. Left and Right channels show input near to clipping, green bars showing green and yellow or red at the end depending on the velocity used. NO SOUND.
Moving the knobs in red triggers the window...NO SOUND.
Pressing FILTER TYPE cycles between LPF1, LPF2, LPF3, HPF, BPF, OFF, LPF1...and so on in a bucle. NO SOUND.

Strange... but I can tell you that here is the place where things go wrong. In other words before you turn on the analog filter. The sound should not disappear here. But from what you describe it seems that everything you do is correct.

I reported Roland some days ago and they said...

...thank you very much for your detailed explanation.
As the behaviour of the Analog Filter is part of the current specification of the Fantom, we will inform our technical staff and ask for investigation in how far there might be an option to change this. We cannot promise anything, but we will try our best to improve the situation.

I just discovered it was something wrong with the AF when trying to help John Marino with a noise issue...

Same here. I don't find the analog filter very useful when it can't be controlled by an envelope or LFO (unless I have missed something). I guess this is because the tones are supposed to be compatible with other Roland products like Zenology Pro etc.

Any undocumented switch to close or strange steps for the thoroughly trained to follow there ?

It is my unit not working then instead of a glitch in Ver 3.01 ?
