Charly, damn fine level headed post. Such a pleasure to see that kind of open mind. So many times on Motifator and HC the blinders are glued on.
Bravo to you, sir!
BTW, an ES6, ES8, Fantom XR, Yammie P90 and RD170. I am afraid that you are terminally spoiled. Let me know if you begin to feel smothered by too much gear. I can alleviate some of your pain.

Re: Fantom users Who also have/used a Motif
Actually I am parting with some of it. I am keeping the ES6 as it's now my main gigging synth.
The ES8 I am selling for sure. The weighted keys feel very nice but it's just to much to haul around and it would just sit at home unused.
I have not yet decided on the P-90 or RD170. The velocity response is different between the two when using with the Fantom XR.
I'll have to play with them both, controlling the XR for awhile before I decide which one to let go. Either way one has to go.

Re: Fantom users Who also have/used a Motif
Hi there, I think toy vs instrument view is based on ease of use, appearance and intended market which is as subjective as ones hearing, so take it all with a pinch of salt.
To answer your question on how a hardware instrument will sound vs Hypersonic etc is dependant on how the sound is reaching your ears. So have a look at the signal paths of the setup you have now and compare that to how your would integrate a hardware synth setup.
BTW Hypersonic has some new modules http://www.wizoo.com/
For studio setup and a whole lot more http://www.tweakheadz.com/guide.htm
I hope this helps you in your worthy quest

Re: Fantom users Who also have/used a Motif
I've heard music made with the motif and music made with hypersonic on the same pair of monitors.
so i know a motif sounds more gorgeous than the vsts i have at the moment.
what i was trying to say is I havent been able to compare tracks made on the fantom to my vsts [and do it on the same monitors]
I've already been to tweak headz, thank you :^)
buying the new modules to me aren't worth it ....
they will still have the same hyperonic sound plus the patches
are written in stone, you can't edit them.
cheap sound is cheap sound no matter what your hearing it thru.
the signal path doesn't matter when i burn the music to disc and put it a boombox and the sounds of the instruments still can not compare.....
thats all i was saying.Thank you for your help though.
from the information I've been gathering these past few days.....I doubt I will go wrong with the Roland Fantom S w/3 SRX boards.
I cannot wait

FS 88 at $1700
I talked to Zzounds today and they are selling FS 88 for $1700 (factory resealed) which looks to be a good price?
New v-synth cards are apparently shipping sometime soon (variOS ports) according to Zz ......

Re: Fantom users Who also have/used a Motif
D-70, could you elaborate and clarify by what you mean by "new v-synth are shipping soon"? A second-generation V-Synth II? Or simply a new VariOS card for the V-synth, like the D-50 card?
Re: Fantom users Who also have/used a Motif
Swandiver Sorry it was a typo, I meant the cards which plug in like the D50 card. The Zzounds representative said he was waiting on the release of the next V cards which he said would emulate the same instruments as the Vari OS namely
Juno/Jupiter synth (Vari OS-8) and TB-303 (Vari OS-3)
So it looks as if two cards are in the pipeline as the Vari OS has to boot in OS-8 mode or OS-3 mode to emulate the above instruments (my guess)
It is possible I could of been just getting sales talk as the V-Synth is not selling in great numbers and I was looking at buying one.
Hope this clears up any confusion I caused you or anyone else

Re: Fantom users Who also have/used a Motif
so essentially if they release that card....
not only did you just buy a v-synth but you got a juno too?
thats dope
I've gotten intrested in the juno lately.....
maybe it will show at namm?

Re: Fantom users Who also have/used a Motif
The Vari OS is emulating vintage keyboards from the Juno/Jupiter era. So any new card would be based on those and/or the TB-303.
The software interface looks simalar to the Jupiter 8.
I really can't see Roland releasing any card based on a newly launched product such as the Juno D.
