3 New Boutique synths as Plug-outs???

Post by bldrman »

The new (ACB based) Boutique synths looks really great..Juno106, JX3p and Jupiter-8 emulations. But what do you think, will they be availble as plug-outs in the System-1? Hope so...

I hope all of them will be available on a full size synth. I would get the small ones too.

Specs say these are four voice, so maybe its possible they could have a plug-out of each new model.
If Roland does create polysynths plug-outs they need to come up with a newer plug-out synth with more keys (full size and not the System-1 type) and tons of knobs sliders and buttons. Also the ability to play more than one plug-out at a time would be great and more polyphony at least six or eight. Imagine splitting and layering sounds from a Jupiter-8, Juno-106 and JX-3p at once from one instrument.

Me likey. Like the ability to pick just the module and my own keys. Not sure if it's possible but am interested if they can enable true polyphony with a firmware update and or one of these in plug-out form to the System-1/m. Can't really tell if there is any real technical reason why not with ACB tech.

Perhaps an alternative way for controlling these device's very very small buttons using Web-MIDI ?
(Alike what is available for Yamaha Reface products).

I hope the controls are not so so small that they are useless and that we end up needing to use something like that. If that is the case I would pass on these synths.

I can't imagine they would be so small that it would be uncomfortable. Maybe if you have large Segovia fingers lol. Korg Volca has never been uncomfortable for me and that thing is pretty darn small.

Other than 3 CC's for MOD,Pedal,HOLD no other CC support nor Sysex, thus no external control.

Yep. Amazing. I can't believe they have done that. What possible reason can there be for not having a complete MIDI spec? Crazy.

So now we're just waiting for the plug-outs to be announced. :-)
The mapping of all controllers/functions (on all three models) should be easy to map 1:1 on the System-1.

I too am wondering if they will end up doing a plugout. Because I can totally see myself ending up buying a system 1m one day when I am randomly wanting a new synth for these rather than getting the modules themselves. Honestly these things would be the one thing that made me want a system 1 at all but I'd like the ability to switch the Jupiter and Juno out inside the same synth.

I'd say it's very likely it will happen. These are being marketed as "Limited Edition" so the way I see it, the initial run will sell out fast for $300 - $500 and then Roland will release the news for the plugouts which will sell for $100 each. Not a bad strategy!

Now we play the waiting game...

I highly doubt they'll do a plug out that'll work with the SYS1 series. Too much money to be made from selling these things separate, and because Jupiter & Juno recreations they will sell without a doubt.

That being said, I'd still love a VST plugout. Hell, I still want one of the TR-8 so you can do separate outputs with zero latency. Oh well...
