Hello folks,
I'm bored of software and planning to buy a hardware synth, due to limit of $ I find this synth a perfect choice.
What do you think is this a good choice for dubstep(Wobbles, growls, leads) and other edm music? :)
Does it Dubstep?
Re: Does it Dubstep?
Welcome to the forum!
I am no expert in the genres you mention, however as far as growls, wobbles and leads are concerned you need look no further :)
Also the sequencer is really creative - either using filters or by triggering different sounds at different times (including triggering an analogue sound then a digital one, etc,) it produces some excellent sounds/patterns.
Go try one :)

The JD-Ax absolutly can make things tremble. From heavy subbass sounds to about anything else.hermanis922 wrote:Hello folks,

Making it wobble is just simply tuning the LFO's and filters. If you know you way around (analog) synths, it is of course possible to create Dubstep-a-like sonars.
I must admit, the default presets are aweful and do not represent what JD-Ax actually can do. Pity Roland didn't create some great sounding presets. Same story as the JP8000. That great synth also had very weak presets. Its years later the real power of the JP8000 surfaced.
But my bet, Roland and 3th party sound engineers will release a bucket load in the comming months for sure.
So to answer your question. If you want to buy one synth that needs to be versatile, I would surely buy the JD-Ax. Its already another classic in the making. Seriously ...
Re: Does it Dubstep?
For dubstep the smaller JD-Xi would already suffice.
It even has a ton of dubstep presets ready to use and it has all the drums you need.
Leaves you with some funds for other goodies (a TB3 and an MX1 perhaps).

Re: Does it Dubstep?
Although the JD-Xi is not a bad synth but it lacks depth and real bottom analog sound. 1 analog voice with one osc is a bit tiny sounding. But the digital part delivers some good synth power though.brambos wrote:For dubstep the smaller JD-Xi would already suffice.

For sure a good deal when money is an issue.
Re: Does it Dubstep?
I was actually mostly referring to the SuperNatural parts of the JD-Xi. I regard the analog part as a bit of a quirky bonus. I'm working on an editor for the digital synth engine and it's actually super powerful and deep.Xtophe wrote:Although the JD-Xi is not a bad synth but it lacks depth and real bottom analog sound. 1 analog voice with one osc is a bit tiny sounding. Seriously; a 64-voice polyphonic, 2 part virtual analog engine with 3 oscillators per voice, 7 filter models and a large collection of PCM wavetables which can be used for each individual oscillator... That is Access Virus-level material, but at a ridiculously cheap price. The only thing lacking is proper editing, hence people see it as a cheap preset machine.. But once I'm finished with my iPad editor I won't regret selling my Virus ;-)
