Hi worldwide Fantom friends (I am from Australia). What in your opinion are the best and punchiest TR 909 samples? In the moment I am using the TR 909 samples from the SRX Dance Extreme card on my Fantom X, in-particular the 'Machine Kit' and the '4onFoorKit'. I try to make them punchier by using the Compressor of the Fantoms effect section, but it still doesn't sound like Armin Van Buren or Paul Van Dyke - and both rely heavily on TR 909 sounds (accordingly to Keyboard Magazie).
Any tips of how to give Buren or Dyke a run for their money just by using the FantomX?
What are the best sounding TR 909 samples?
Re: What are the best sounding TR 909 samples?
The set from Music Machines has 20-30 variations per each sound of 909, and the quality is outstanding. Get it here: http://machines.hyperreal.org/manufactu ... 909all.zip
Hollow Sun have a very nice and superb-quality 909 sample set too: http://www.hollowsun.com/vintage/909/index.html

Re: What are the best sounding TR 909 samples?
Thank you so much for your reply, Artemio, this kind of information I was looking for, but I am wondering how you personally would rate these samples in comparison to the TR909 samples from the SRX Dance Extreme Card or the TR909 samples from the FantomX?
Here in Australia the opinion about the quality of the SRX and the FantomX samples is very mixed - some people say not to bother with them and others say that the SRX Dance Extreme provides the best TR909 samples available on the market. In my part of the world this has been an ongoing debate for a while now and I'd like to hear your opinion on this matter.

i dont like 80% of the percussion on the fantom...!i would VERY VERY rarely use kicks or snares from the fantom...there way too weak!
Jost....give me an example of a song(s) where u like the kicks and stuff best?

Hi niall01
Thank you for your reply and I agree with you to a certain degree. I also miss the punch of the bass and of the snare which is the reason why I posted this thread as I wanted to see how other musos deal with the rhythym aspect of the FantomX.
To answer your question I like the kicks and snares used in Armin Van Buren and Paul Van Dykes latest track (2003 to 2004). I combine the Korg Electribe RmkII with the FantomX and seem to get some pretty good results, but that means having the SRX Extreme Dance Card and not using it, which I seem to resist!!!

Re: What are the best sounding TR 909 samples?
The internal 909/808 samples are of about the same quality, but [1] their variety is much weaker [2] some of them are processed - not original. These sets have a much greater variety of sounds (especially the MM set, it's simply killer), and they all are original, right from the line outs.
As of 80% of drums being bad, I won't agree. I'd say around 10-15% is pretty unusable, but the rest gives you a great variety and quality. When making beats, it's often needed to have a good perc or snare that fits just right, and it's good to have a vast selection.
