JP-80 v1/v2 Soundlist comparison
JP-80 v1/v2 Soundlist comparison
As there's been a bit of discussion about the differences between the v1 and v2 soundlist on the JP-80, I thought I'd put a spreadsheet together to try and understand the differences.
You can get the spreadsheet here.
Each tab covers Registrations down to drum kits. On each page there is a summary of the key differences.
Hope you find it useful :)
Edit: up-revved to v2 following discovery of typo; 39 v1 Registrations have been dropped; thanks JuneauUnderground! :)

Fantastic!! WOw you saved everyone, including myself a lot of time trying to understand the differences between the 2. If you cant open the file you can download Excel Viewer for free from Microsoft as I did..

I count 39 deleted registrations that are marked in red instead of 37. Is it me or a typo?

Hi, Chello
You are the man!
This is what I wondered how different V1/V2 is.
Thanks for your effort!

Thanks for this - indeed a typo! Must have been tired after all the counting of the sounds!JuneauUnderground wrote:I count 39 deleted registrations that are marked in red instead of 37. Is it me or a typo?
Please note all - have up-revved link to v2; glad you're all finding the xls useful :)

Thank you for doing this! I had been hoping to do it myself to figure out why I ran out of tone slots when I tried to copy the 39 missing version 1 registrations into the empty registration slots in version 2. Since all the tones except 1 are present in version 2, shouldn't the version 1 registrations use the tone that is already there in ver 2 instead of importing all the tones each registration used in version 1? Perhaps the fact that many of the synth tones are shifted up by 1 is why.

I noticed the exact same thing when I imported my own sounds from OS v1.1. I haven't experimented to be honest but I am going to over the weekend.
I am going to take an old registration that uses early numbered livesets and then see if they overwrite the same numbered item or adds them to the next available slot - which is what my earlier import did so I ended up with duplicates of sounds...
Will post back once I've figured it out!

Lived in Southfields, London but growing up my best mates were Scottish and I spent a ton of time at their house - I've never been able to get rid of the 'cannae'!
Re: JP-80 v1/v2 Soundlist comparison
Hello
Thanks a lot for that list, Cello. Very helpful.
I have a question, because I am sure many of you have done it already.
How to do it - I want to have all new registrations, but in the empty user registrations I want to have all the old registrations from version 1, which are missing in version 2. What is the best and easiest way to do it?
For now I performed the upgrade to ver. 2, but did not do a factory reset yet, so I guess I have new system but "old " sounds. I understand that after performing this reset, I will loose sounds of version 1. Maybe some of you have done it this way, so you have all new vers. 2 sounds plus all "old" ver. 1 sounds, which are missing in version 2 - is it possible to do it for example loading one file etc? Thanks for your advice.
Mike

Re: JP-80 v1/v2 Soundlist comparison
Hi Mike - one of the enhancements that were introduced in v1.1 was the ability to export and import single or groups of sounds. This is also in v2.0.
What you do is go to System and go to the second page then select 'Export'. You are then presented with all the sound lists; Registrations, Livesets and Tones. You select the ones you want to export - perhaps using my spreadsheet as a guide. The sounds will be saved on your USB stick - give it a useful name.
Then, just as a fall back, do a full backup from the System page.
Next do the factory restore, which will introduce the v2.0 sounds.
Go back to the 2nd System page and select 'Import'. Your USB stick will be searched for files that can be imported. You then select where you want them to go. Once you've gone through all the sounds, hit Import and you will now have the v2.0 sounds and the v1.x sounds.
Hope that helps! :)
