Yeah, I sorta feel betrayed. But l feel more "left behind" than I do betrayed. I was excited about future upgrades, and 3rd party sounds. And hoped to see the Fantom-S user community grow. It seems it all has come to a premature end.Wish they couldve at least kept it in the loop.Perhaps even offering it as an lower priced alterative to the Fantom-x(guess the new Xa fills that slot though).
Once again, sorry for all my whining. I think its a good idea to create a "Complaints & Concerns" category here at this site so where we can voice our opinions without polluting the rest of the Forum. After all, we are Roland customers as well.

I know that I am probably in the minority here, but the S does tons more than what I will ever need. It's operating system, compared to MS Window$, is pretty darned good...

I certainly understand where people are coming from in regards to Roland's support of their hardware, but that seems to be true for just about every electronic item (and company) on the market. The ONLY electronics-related company that has really personally impressed me has been Hauppage. They seem to support their stuff forever. It's mostly computer hardware-related stuff for TV, FM, etc. If only they made a keyboard...

of course we paid for what it was, FS, not FS + some extras.
but. there is a chance to show you care of your customers, Roland. the ones who helped you to bring fantom product line to logical completeness when you needed an extra year to compete with Yammi and Korg. I sign.

I support the petition.

My Fantom S is now 1 year old, and I tkink it would be a big damage for Roland if they stopp the support for it.
I use Roland equipment since 15 years, and were all the time happy with it.
Take a look on other Roland products. For example VS Recording series they still the one that are older than 3 years.
You can still update the 1680 for using the new vs8f-3.

The open structue of the Fantom S allows that new features could be implemented.
Please Roland use it, invent a future to all S users, ant they will buy the next generation after the X serias!!!!

Question: Would anyone buy a car, whith will not be supportet by the company next year? The min of support time is 5 years. And the avability of parts has to be 10 years.

Please don´t play with us, we are the customers and if we do not buy your products, the company will went in trouble.

I knew damn well the Fantom-S was out of date, when I got it.
But it is my understanding the basic structure of the S is the same as the X. what works in the X, will work in the S(Hardware limitations noted. Memory access, and polyphony cannot be upgraded through OS.)
If they make an 8 track option for the X that you have to pay for, why can't they make a "pay for" option for S owners.

Plus things like the sample editor, and the Multi-Sample editor that X owners will be getting with the OS upgrades, which writes to the Fantom language, and operates on a PC. That would be nice to have. I want it. If the Ver2 upgrade costs $50, I may buy it just for those.

Lol, sorry to inform guys. Roland Never listended and Never will!! You can cry your butts out and bang the head against the wall. Hey, has anyone forgotten that roland developers/engineers or whatever you call these people, are all japanese and apparantlly they can't read or understand English?
Take for instance the recent Jupiter 80 demos on youtube. All in japanese language with no subtitles , nothing. It makes it more than clear to us that, Roland doesn't care. They simply forgot that the majority of buyers (90% I would say) live in different parts of the world and that japaneese is not a kind of "standard" second language for any of us. Take for instance yamaha and korg, they stil support their products, just visit their forums and webs and anyone will see that. I had a real good laugh when I saw this post that I could not resist hahaha

You have done lot less then vent your own anger against Roland here in the Forum. I wonder what moves you. But if this is all you want to do here at least don't use bad language. Please consider this a warning.

Yes, I certainly hope that Roland continues to supprt the FS. I'm retired and live on a pension. Buying new equipment every few years is not something to consider. The initial purchase was lots for me at the time! If Roland drops its suppoer, other makes and models will definitely be looked at should I need to buy another machine.

Hey all,

I can understand your frustration. I have a Fantom X but I do support your petition so consider it signed by me as well. Having said that perhaps we need to look at this from the perspective of Fantom G users? Roland has pretty much stopped supporting the G if the Fantom G forum is any indication. Roland's new JP80 at its price point will not generate tons of revenue for Roland to develop more ARX nor will it generate the revenue for the much desired OS upgrade many Fantom G users are wanting/needing. I am realistic about the chances of Roland doing anymore for the Fantom X and those chances are zero. Again, I have signed the petition, but I do fear that Roland has moved on.

On the other hand, Kurzweil DOES care. The PC3 is still supported by Kurzweil even though it is three years old. The OS 2.02 is a MAJOR upgrade that adds new features, patches, and keymaps among other things. Kurzweil reps are present on all fora that focus on Kurzweil. Korg reps like Dan Phillips do the same at Korg forums. I would be shocked to see an actual Roland rep on here.

Roland makes great instruments but it is the user community that have provided much better support for the instruments than Roland. Chief among them is the owner of this forum. When I bought the Planet series (need to get the newest ones) and the Tweakbook, my X was transformed. Until Roland improves it support of its instruments, the last Roland product I MIGHT buy is the V-Synth because it is a tried and tested great synth. But after the debacle of the Fantom G initial release coupled with the lack of support for the biggest feature of the G along with the frustrations of X and S users, I will not pull the trigger on a new Roland product until they show that they actually CARE about the musicians who buy their instruments instead of releasing 500,000 different types of Junos.

Ahimsa,
Vlad

PS: I guess we should not lose ALL hope. A small group of people in the late sixties and early seventies starting writing letters to NBC protesting the cancellation of a certain sci-fi series. They were successful and Star Trek went from almost total obscurity to one of the most successful science fiction franchises in show business history - and NBC is a helluva lot larger than Roland ;)

for your info Artemio started this site before he got his FS. Perhaps in future you could make just a little bit more efort to make some positive contributions to the debate. As the thread starter said, please could we keep all posts on topic. Do you own a Fantom S? Would you like to see it supported? If you do, and you would then please support the petition. If you don't, or are happy not to have any support then please restrain from making worthless comments in this thread.
