hi, i have a quick question.
i was wondering if someone could please give me their opinion on the pressure and velocity sensitivity of the pads in the fantom x?
i have messed with the pad settings as far as i learned how to (including the faq), yet i still feel that i have to hit my pads relatively harder than i assumed i had to.
for example, sometimes i tap them directly on (in the middle), and i get nothing. then i can do it a few more times and i might get a sound. its only if i literally 'bang' on them is when i get a constant sound.
this 'banging' i have to do on the pads is making it harder for me to associate the pads with the keys while playing, so i was wondering if this is normal for everyone? do i possibly have to wear it in first? or do i still have to basically 'bang' on them?
i know i can learn to easily deal with it after awhile, i just want to make sure there is not something wrong or something im missing or doing wrong.
thanks.
question regarding the pads
Re: question regarding the pads
I've had the same problem, and probably still will for a while. What are you using your pads for?
I haven't used pads in music application ever, so I only seem to utilize my pads for Samples. And even then, try to play with the velocities some and see which one works best for you. Currently, I use the pads at 127 velocity, and it works fine. But you may have to wear it in some, since the synth is relatively new. I hope you get it worked out!

Re: question regarding the pads
Same here... Those pads are kinda temperamental.
They're OK for triggering patterns and samples at a fixed velocity, and for programming percussion patterns (the "unpredictability" gives the patterns a nice human element of error). But yes, they are inconsistent at "underbang" velocities.

Re: question regarding the pads
I have a X7.
I don't use the pads for the music because I think that they are too bad for that.
but, I use the pads very much for the short-circuit functions.
I save a lot of time like this.

Per snoopy...
"but, I use the pads very much for the short-circuit functions.

What are short-circuit functions?

Hi git.
I think snoopy is referring to the short-cut or "clip board" function that allows you assign any screen or window in the Fantom-X to any of the 16 pads for quick recall. You recall those clip board "bookmarks" with 2 button presses; "CLIP BOARD" then the pad associated with the bookmark.
As for the sensitivity of the pads, yes, it is imperfect and I have to hit them relatively hard on my Fantom-X8 to get consistent velocity out of them. They are not ideal for life performances but are quite useful for data entry, drum pattern programming, and sample triggering.
