Can the fantom be used as a Record interface with cubase?

Post by svppromo »

Im trying to use the fantom to record vocal in cubase 5...but on the fantom when im using the mic/guitar input I cant hear the beat thats playing in cubase because the fantom has to be on audio/usb to hear whats coming from the pc/usb.

So im guessing the fantom g cant be used for record into a DAW software.

If so, that sucks because I brought it cause I thought it did everything.

let me know if anyone got it to work.

sorry but you can't record and monitor with the fantom G on any daw.

i use a mixer for my monitors and have an input from the computer and the fantom

Note, that Fantom-G can have input only from one source at a moment: mic, guitar, usb audio, digit audio, line in. But you can combine midi input with audio input.

Fantom-G is not a realtime mixer, it's a synthesizer :-)

well yes you can stream audio from the computer to the fantom and yes you can stream audio from the fantom to the computer, BUT you can't do this at the same time while recording because the audio coming from the computer will mix with the audio that you are recording through the fantom causing you to have one track on your daw with all your tracks mixed and not a vocal track by itself.
now if you wanted to record midi to your daw i would think it would work fine.

a work around for this would be to take advantage of the stereo feed from the fantom. take all your audio coming from the daw and pan it completely to one side and then all you have to do is make sure you pick the right input on your daw to get the vocals alone.

Please read both tutorials
And if you don't believe me read this thread were a lot of guys are using the G as audio interface with a DAW

I find all of this very interesting. So can the Fantom G act like my Yamaha Motif ES6 with mLan option in it? From what I'm reading, (if I purchase a Famtom G) I can use it with a DAW (I use Logic 9) as an audio and midi interface, simultaneously? If I can use the Fantom G the same way that my Yamaha ES with mLan, then I think I might actually bite the bullet and get a Fantom G. Pleas V-CeeOh let me know if this is possible.

From my practice. My project in Reaper has some midi tracks with VSTi. Its output is Fantom-G, not my built-in audio card. In this case I use sounds of my VSTi. And my project has another midi tracks with midi output as Fantom-G. For that tracks I use sounds of Fantom-G (studio mode). I monitor and manage my music composition from Fantom-G through my headphone which is connected to Fantom-G.

I connect Fantom-G to my computer only through USB.
