Audio Interfaces??

Post by msam »

hey everyone!
just wanted to know which audio interface(s) do you guys use to compliment the Fantom(?) I haven't used the "resample" feature of the fantom to transfer the songs to pc as of yet...(it's a tedious task)..

i'm thinking between the Presonus Firebox and the Echo Audiofire 4...
any experiences with either of the two? which should i go with?

I use a Lexicon Omega. I used it first on my old Window$ platform. I now have it hooked up to my new Mac. It's a pretty flexible interface but could be a little more intuitive. I have my Fantom-S, V-Drums, and guitar wired through it. The only notable complaint that I have about is that it doesn't have its own power switch. Note also that the interface to the computer is thru USB. Firewire is not supported.

Im upgrading from just Fantom to CUBASE 5 and found Steinberg (makers of Cubase) make thier own interface for about £800 which has great preamps for recording mics etc

thanks everyone for responding...
yeah...i think i'm still stuck between choosing the two interfaces...but I'm probably going to get the Presonus Firebox because it seems to be the best "bang for the buck"...and the company is also prominent in the music interface industry...

any firebox users here?

I'm using a Presonus Firestudio Project right now and its the best investment i've made since my FantomX6. I started with the E-MU 0404 (4 analof 1/4 in's and out's comming out of the back of a PCI card) the access when needing to chang instruments was ridiculously difficult and a waste of time. Then I bought a M-Audio Delta 1010LT PCI card which has 10 analog in's and out's but they are all RCA cables and all of my instruments are 1/4 inch so that was a no go.. (also everything coming out of the back of a PCI card was stupid) Then I had a client offer me a brand new Presonus Firestudio Project with a Presonus Faderport. This is literally the best input / output setup i've ever used let alone owned. I was skeptical of FIREWIRE at first but I am running loads of samples, recordings and VST's simultaneously at virtually 0 latency. Plus having all of my instruments running into a unit in front of me with full eq controls and the only thing running into the PC itself is ONE little Firewire cable.

For 600 you can't go wrong with it.

www.Presonus.com if you want to check it out.

thanks Buzzhawg!
yeah..i've heard of the firestudio and "supposedly" the firebox has the same converters of the firepod...can you confirm this?

i noticed in another post that you use fl studio too...does the firestudio show up in the fl studio drivers? maybe you should make a video showing how you set up your audiointerface with your fantom? :) it would give me an idea of how to start my setup...haha

i have a M Audio 23/96 pci card. I use a Yamaha mixer to EQ and give me multiple inputs into the pci card.

I was really close to purchasing a Presonus Firebox, but the more I researched online, the more I continued to come across people who were unhappy with its preamp volume and overall sound quality.

I just picked up a Mackie Onyx 400f, and wow. Unbelievable steal for $399 (down from $999.) Google it and you'll find many people who are amazed by the preamp and digital converter quality you're getting- like, $2,000 hardware kind of good.
