Fantom-G Tweakbook is now available

Post by Artemiy »

Hello all!

I am happy to announce that the Fantom-G Tweakbook is now available.

This book is intended for people who want to explore the greatest depths of their Fantom-G synthesizers from Roland. It is a truly immense knowledge resource of many different techniques and secrets on sound design and music production, with lots of illustrations and example sounds provided in each tutorial article.

The book covers an overwhelming amount of topics, including subtractive, additive and vector synthesis, ring modulation, analog sound replication, envelope, LFO and matrix modulation, using effect processors as synthesis blocks, sampling and re-sampling, advanced processing of internal and external sounds, audio post-production, using in conjunction with other gear and much beyond. And yet, with the helpful introductory tutorials, dictionary and patch parameter map, the Fantom-G Tweakbook is as easy to understand to newbies as it is to experienced Roland users.

In total, the book includes 56 articles, 70 patches, as well as additional samples and audio examples.

You can find more information and audio demo at the Sinevibes website:

This is something I think every Fantom G owner simply MUST purchase and read. You owe it to yourself as an Fantom G owner, it's your obligation to yourself.

I started reading this book and its just wonderful how Art describes how soundprogramming works on the Fantom G.
This way you learn how to get the sounds you always wanted. (and more!)

Art you did a great job!

JJ, unfortunately I do not have enough sales to justify a French translation, it will be too expensive for such a specific technical book. However, anyone who owns the book will confirm that the English language in this book is very, very easy to understand. And in the user interface of the Fantom-G, all parameters are in English anyway, so when you read the instructions and the sound creation diagrams you see exactly what you see inside the Fantom-G.

Thanks Artemiy, it's been very informative so far! This is my first keyboard (used to a simple piano) so it's great to learn the underlying theory behind all the sound manipulation potential of the instrument.

Thanks for the kind words, guys! I really hope you understand how powerful these instruments are. This can actually save you a lot of time and money on buying new gear ;-)

I am also looking forward at your suggestions for more articles in the second edition.

tweak book

Post by audiofreak »

I was thinking about purchasing your tweak book but it is like 28 dollars cad and I don't know if its worth it. I see that you describe certain types of synthesis in the book.So my question then, is
all the synthesis described in your book, does it directly relate to the Fantom G.I love to tweak and make my own sounds, wouldn't the V Synth be better for this or an Alesis Andromeda instead of the Fantom G. Because if the Fantom could do some serious tweaking , then why would Roland put out the V Synth.

Thank You

Of course yes - everything is built directly on the Fantom-G's sound engine, and only the Fantom-G's sound engine. This book describes the G's possibilities exclusively.
Because if the Fantom could do some serious tweaking , then why would Roland put out the V Synth.
First, the Fantom-G *is* capable of very serious sound tweaking. And it's to your interest to learn it in good depth, because the G can prevent you from buying more gear and software that you may not need.

Also, the V-Synth is much different from the Fantom-G. While it may be a more capable synthesizer, with it's VariPhrase technology and semi-modular structure, it cannot do some things the Fantom-G can. And in terms of synthesis the Fantom-G still beats most other workstations, because it has many features like ring modulator and tone structures, a very flexible modulation matrix and an ability to use effects as synthesis elements too.

Trust me, $19 US is VERY cheap for this book - considering it took almost a year to write. By contrast, Planet X took around a month to do and it costs $29. I just think that education should be affordable and I price my books much lower than I would price other products.

Artemiy...I have several messages in the forum about the missing arpeggio sets after installing version 1.3.
I was hoping that you would notice and respond.
Would you please ask Dan Krisher if Roland intends on restoring the FGConnects arpeggio sets(10) that we had before 1.3? I know this is not a reply of the subject you were responding to but I couldn't determine how else to get to you.
P.S. The new forum looks great. I do appreciate what you are doing. I can only imagine how much work it involved to get it looking and working so well.
I do look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks!

Good book, thanks Artemiy ;)
P.S in very similar way to making tb 303 emulation patch, you can get very reliable lead guitar sounds.
