Greeeting to all V-ers
At the moment I own an original V (version 2 software) with both cards - the VC1 and VC2. I am very taken with the idea of owning a GT now that the new OS has appeared. Obviously that's a pretty costly option, especially here in "weak pound Britain".
So I could sell my original V to raise some cash towards the GT. But would I regret it? If anyone has experience with both the original V and the GT - WITH THE NEW OS - I'd be interested to hear your opinions. Has the GT now reached the same level of stability and convenience as the original V? Or should I sell something else and keep both?
Thank you.
GT - adequate replacement for original V yet?

Re: GT - adequate replacement for original V yet?
Hi,
I'm not a GT 2.0 owner (for the time being), but after reading a lot in here, and seeing all the videos about it, even despite some criticism from other members, it would be something that I would go for (provided I had the necessary funds...).
I own a V-Synth XT v2.02, and also after using it for a couple of months, the thing that I miss is... a second one
or a GT, as these are really amazing machines, very very inspiring and easy to use (opposed to other very well known boards).
IMHO, if I was you, I would keep both, as with the GT you will gain Vocal designer as part of the system (not needing a boot), Dual Core (really handy), AP Synthesis, etc. With the V 2.0 you will keep another Voice (so three instead of one) and the VC-1, that for me is a MUST !!
Just MHO
Take care

Thanks Paulo - I'd forgotten that the VC-1 capability had gone. That would be a shame. Both would be nice but...the money...the space...

VC-2 goes for a lot these days (sold mine for £250+)... by selling each of the bits separately (£100 for the VC1 perhaps and 650 for the V?) you would get close to a grand which is what I paid for my s/h GT.
I owned the V-Synth and VC2.. awesome but a pain in the arse having to unplug/plug the VC2 all the time.
I have only briefly played with the GT as its in storage since October (I emigrated and so its en-route now). Everything is basically x 2 of the original but one thing I didn't like was the patch (probably wrong terminology in GT land) share (a'la Roland JX10) where by an edit in a patch makes changes to other sounds (as in dual engine) that use that patch...
Also I think the original V-Synth was easier to edit because each knob kinda did its own thing whereas now the GT has a different system.
Overall though the GT is defo the way to go... being able to play the V-Synth synth engine in tandem with the vocal stuff promises to be a fabulous experience...
Mind you another option for you would be to get an XT rack as an addition...

Re: GT - adequate replacement for original V yet?
Thanks OF (may I call you OF?). I hadn't realised the VC-2 was quite that sought after. Did you have to wait long to get such a good price for it, may I ask?
I had considered the possibility of getting an XT and a GT and getting rid of my V. Hmmm...maybe.
I do think that patch sharing thing on the GT absolutely stinks. It was like that on my D5 - cheap and pretty nasty and, or course, pre-historic in music technology terms. I was disgruntled and stunned, basically, to find out that it was back in a high end unit like the GT. Geniuses, eh - what are they like? Still - it seems to be a choice of that or staying with the older generation and I can't really see that changing. I'm hopeful but I don't realistically expect that one to change.
Time to check out the price of second hand XTs, I reckon.
Cheers.

Hehe... OF is fine for me..
VC2 is very sought after... you will have no probs shifting it... cheapest alternative for people is to buy the lower specified VP550 keyboard... which I guess is at least £500 or so... I put it on ebay and didn't put a but it now option on it... just let it run and was surprised to see it go for that much...
I had the VC2 in a Varios actually, then I planned to hook the VSynth and that together...(in fact I had originally planned to use it with a digital piano piano so I could do Brazilian scat signing while soloing on the piano!) but the GT somehow feels better that way...

If you decide to sell the V-synth, you can count me as a customer... given the price is right and you want to ship it outside Britain. And the power is auto-switching. (220 V 50 Hz here)
