Using Cubase to choose the BANK for a patch

Post by crashingtodust »

Newbie alert. I'm using Cubase LE and connected just via MIDI to a fantom X6.

Selecting the patch (just by number) works fine from cubase, but I can't get any sense out of the BANK selection.

I tried downloading a 'cubase parse file' I found on the web and put it in 'Scripts\patchnames\inactive\Roland' (this is where cubase seems to keep all the other parse files it is aware of).

But going in to Devices | Midi Device manager | Install Device, it just doesn't turn up in the list (like the other files in this folder do).

I'd love to hear from anyone with any approach that works.

Thanks.

in cubase select
Devices
Midi Device Manager

Click on "Import Setup".
Import your patch script here.
Assign the appropriate MIDI port in the field "Output".

Ready.

I use Cubase LE and the banks change ok - I generated the names using PatchGen, and imported using the method described above. If you need a script file then let me know and I will email it to you.

For some reason though it won't let me label the Banks... it insists on labelling them with numbers. Lets me edit the patch names but not bank names. Perhaps this is a limitation of LE, but if anyone knows the answer then let me know! Not a major problem, but it would be nice to see the bank names...

Hi cronkston,

1. I didn't quite catch your desire.
Where do you want to see bank names?
What do you mean with bank names (preset A,B,C.. ?)

2. It would be nice if you could mail the patch script files.
Send them to
juergen.hurst (at) gmx.de

Hi Jurgen

You know when you select a patch from the menu on the left of the screen in cubase, it shows all the banks, which can be expanded to see the patches. But in my case the banks are just numbered 1 to 17, whereas I would like them to say "User Bank, Xp-A, Xp-B" etc etc. For some reason it doesn't let me change them in the device manager.

I will get the .xml file for you in case it's any use - it's on my other (non-internet) computer but I'm sure I will get round to it eventually!

XML file for Cubase

this has SRX 01,04,05 and 98 added to the patch banks, so you can select all of these plus the usual presets from within Cubase.

Go into Midi Device Manager and IMPORT MIDI DEVICE

S90ES

Cronkston,

I am experiencing the same issues with regard to importing an S90ES script file regardless of what method I choose. What are the chances of me getting you to generate a file using patchgen and emailing it to me?
