The OS on the Fantom G is a very sophisticated piece of work from what I have observed and through working with it on my G7 these past several months. To be fair, the Fantom G OS was and
still is "incomplete". The Fantom G Manual talks about saving a file as SMF yet we still do NOT have the ability to currently do so on our Fantom G.
The OS is still incomplete and it was even more so when Roland shipped the FG back on May 1st: rushing it out to meet a deadline I might add..

Since the OS is so complicated in my opinion, Roland is up against a pretty slick Operating System and apparently have their work cut out for them in trying to implement and fix whatever needs fixing and adding and enhancing whatever they feel needs to be added and enhanced. It would be nice if they took everyone's wants & wishes into consideration and implemented them, since that would make everybody happy.

But, unfortunately it doesn't happen that way, because Roland is completely in control and soverign when it comes to what they should add and/or fix. Hopefully, there are some very kind hearted, conscientious, software engineers at Roland Japan who have close personal ties with the top management personnel in the decision making process i.e. "those in authority who can include or reject some feature, enhancement, or bug fix for the Fantom G based solely on his own management decision." I'm sure the top management confers with each other and they base their decision(s) on their "corporate" agreement as to what should be fixed or added, but ultimately it is just one person who gives the final okay at their headquarters in Japan whether or not to do so. And that one person isn't necessarily the CEO of the company.

Hopefully some of the software engineers, who feel the plight of us poor Fantom G owners

, are in good graces with the top management, right?
The Fantom X got to update 2.10 and then axed quietly. Some said there were still quite a few things that needed fixing on the X after OS 2.10 was issued, but that was the farthest Roland went with the X.
All I can say is I hope Roland won't give up and throw in the towel so quickly on the Fantom G like they did with the Fantom X.

>> If it is really true what people were saying about the X continuing to need bug fixes, etc. that is.

Having never owned the X, I therefore can't personally comment one way or the other in that regard.
They i.e. Roland, and they alone, have the power resting in their corporate, decision making, hands - to say to this one - yes, and to that one - no. Hopefully the Fanton G will be a continual - YES!

>> Yes to the Update(s)! Yes to the BUG fixes! Yes to the ENHANCEMENTS! And finally, YES! - in their resolve in getting the Fantom G to where it should be - to the ultimate completeness it deserves; and finally epitomized in being the fantastic and truly awesome workstation it is - and they intended it to be all along.
>> The only thing that is holding that up, in my opinion, is in the software realm. Well... that, and superb ARX expansion opportunities hopefully forthcoming soon too.

And some great acoustical sound libraries possibly as well.

Oops.. I better shut up now.
