"Machine Gun" drum roll

Hello, all.

Really enjoying my MC-808, although I am still trying to get the thought of my old MC-909 out of my head .... I miss it



Oh well ... wondering if anybody is familiar with the "machine gun" type of roll?

I guess you would hear it mostly with Electronic music, but it is becoming more common with other types as well.

To be a little more technical with my question I suppose I should ask how to create a roll via 64th or 192nd notes.

Is this even a possibility with the 808?

If it is not possible - maybe you know of a workaround and wouldn't mind sharing.

I have an idea of using a KAOSS unit in conjunction with my 808 to get that type of glitchy effect - in addition to other things.

Try halving the BPM for programming in 64th notes. when set back to the proper bpm, this should result in very rapid beats.

Try fading them in with the volume to get that "roll" effect.

I am very new to my MC-808 and I don't know how to do it but I remember that I saw a section describing how to do it in the manual. It is at page 34 (2-2-7). I don't know if it is the right thing but check it out!

Hi Waterboy,

If you were looking for a quick fix by getting another piece of kit, I'd recommend the Korg PadKontrol (may be cheaper than the Kaoss, unless you already have the Kaoss). The PadKontrol has an XY touchpad that is one button press away from creating rolls and flams.

I use the PadKontrol on all of my hardware (I own the MC808, as well), as it is dead easy to hammer in a beat (it's like a cross between the 808's pads and MPC pads...). It works perfectly with all of my hardware and software.
