I played the ARX-02!!
Re: I played the ARX-02!!
My 2 (how do you make a "cents" sign?) cents
Arjan, if you have a PC you should be able to hold down the Alt key and hit 155 and then release the alt key. You should see the ¢ sign.
This is the ASCII code for a PC with the US layout.

Alt+0162 = ¢ here
XP: Start>Run... "charmap"
I don't understand why you can hit AltGr+E = € but not AltGr+C = ¢.
The people who designed this should be shot! Same thing with the m² and cm³ and F/C°.. Why didn't they tackle those with AltGr+2, AltGr+3 and AltGR+O while they were at it? Stupid people...
Oh, and to stay on topic. I wish to get to test a ARX-02 soon!

Keybed
Hi folks!
I'm pretty sure the G8 (which I'm eagerly waiting for!) and the RD have got the same kwybed. My local dealer said so after having tried them both in Frankfurt a couple of weeks ago.
I have read most of the posts in this "ARX-category" and it seems to me a really good Rhodes sound is of great importance to a lot of people, including myself. Digidesign have made an excellent job with their Velvet, in which you'll find the MKI and II as well as the SC73.
For those who are interested in "hte real thing", check out Al Jarreau's album "Jarreau" and listen carefully to the Rhodes played by David Foster, among others. Simply the loveliest sound on Earth.

Re: I played the ARX-02!!
They do not have the same keybed.
A simple search on any Roland site will tell you this.
Again: the G8 doesn't have escapement, the RD700 does.

HowardS,
Thanks, but I was responding in jest to 2TIM316. Here's some more options: ¢2, £0.02, ¥0.02, €0.02

The RD-700GX and the G8 both have the PHAII "Ivory Feel" keyboard. Yes the 700GX has the "Escapment" feature while this is not present on the G8. This already happend with the previous versions: The RD-700SX had the PHAII with escapement ((without "Ivory Feel") while the X8 had just the PHAII. So the "keybed" and "weight" is the same on both keyboard but the "resistance" is different. With escapment, when pressed slowly, the "resistance" increases in the first half of the key movement and then is suddenly reduced in the second half. This reproduces the feel of the keyboard mechanism of an acoustic piano.
If you want to see how this works see THIS video

Arjan, I guess I should have had a wink in my post. I too was responding in jest. I saw Tim's post and then your post. Those other signs all work too.
V-CeeOh - Thanks for explaining escapment. The RD700SX did feel incredible to me. I think I need one.

Re: I played the ARX-02!!
The G8 has aftertouch, the RD700GX doesn't.Again: the G8 doesn't have escapement, the RD700 does.

They are two different instruments used for basically two different purposes. One's a workstation and the other a digital piano. So you wouldn't need aftertouch for the piano patches on the RD700GX but there are other categories of patches on the RD700GX besides piano/elec. piano, so aftertouch would have been a nice inclusion for the GX. OTOH, escapement would have been nice on the Fantom G if it could have been done without losing aftertouch as a feature. Maybe it is too hard to implement both features together or possibly it is too cost prohibitive. Or maybe Roland had never considered adding both features to the same board before and after reading my suggestions will do so on the next generation of their keyboard products.

Re: I played the ARX-02!!
cool ... interesting video ... i need a translater ..!!
so , same keybed ( 700sx/G8 ) , but different features that are more appropriate for the intended use ...
so now i'd prefer the 700gx with a tabletop version of the Fantom G ...!? guess that won't happen soon ...

Re: I played the ARX-02!!
I played the 700GX today at Guitar Center Tempe, AZ.
The SRX-02 patches did not feel good or sound good to me.
The EP patches after the 10 ARX ones sounded very good in some cases.
The velocity was out of balance. Good touch in the mid range but I have to use a hammer to get good velocity out of the low notes and the sounds were not realistic.
The dyno EP sound was not bad and the Wurly not bad, but the rest of the ARX-02 EP's were not realistic at all. Also the dynamic range was very lacking to me...wierd, I thought that was one of the new benefits...It was smooth, but not a lot of dynamic range compared to some of the stock EP's.
I did play with the internal settings...no improvement, just some added noises and/or sound shaping, but did not help the realism or touch.
Oh well...I'm glad the EP's on the G itself are getting good reviews. I also played the Yamaha CP-300 right next to it. I usually am not a big fan of this keyboard, but the Rhodes and Wurly on the 300 outshined the RD700GX.
Bummer.

Re: I played the ARX-02!!
korg1 ARX-02 has nice though artificial sounding dynamics. But it plays and sounds totally unnatural compared with a real Rhodes or Wurly, and your sampled Rhodes with the realease tones sounds *much* better.
Re: I played the ARX-02!!
Thanks,at begining i used real release samples, but there was not relly need to ,so i created another patch with internal release tones.
I 'm glad you liked it!
The only that bothers me is the equalizer, but rhodes is supposed to sound like that, right?
i will try to make it brighter someday, hope soon!

korg1,
Good work!

Thanks!
